Hello,
New on the forum. I used to be on here a lot years back. Looking to get into a Silverado EV, or Sierra EV. Looking for a utility/range option. Like they’re in the 400 mile range and have good practicality.
I’ve done some searching and seeing some nice deals in different areas of the country. And some good tips and tricks from deals being done.
I’m in SC near the NC border. I’ve gone around most of the local Chevy dealers (100 mile radius) and can’t locate much in the way of inventory, outside of WT options. Mostly full priced RSTs. Wasn’t looking for lease initially. But open to a purchase if I can finance at a low rate. Or a lease deal. Was thinking of 2026 models with GMC saying they’re about to lose billions in tarriffs I’m thinking sooner rather than later and 2024-25.
Any tips on how to locate a deal? Where to search? I’ve done a lot and have used the typical edmunds, cars, cargurs and chevy sites. But keep getting screwed by dealers. One miscalulated their deal numbers and only after they learned my salary, another loaded accessories onto the deal knowing I’d traveled to buy and gone 150 miles to do a deal. Just a lot of BS I’ve not missed in the past 5 years or so.
Click on Marketplace for SC and up/down the seaboard like VA, FL, etc
Look at the Ford Lightnings too.
As a long-time EV driver I don’t consider range to be a big deal or at least the biggest deal. I want my EV to be efficient just like anyone would want their ICEV to be efficient. Would you buy a 9 MPG truck if someone was making a 18 MPG truck, all else being equal?
A hugely inefficient drivetrain like the GM trucks that “tricks” buyers into thinking it has long range just because they stuffed more batteries and made it even heavier? That’s a hard pass for me.
I’m a longish term driver of teslas and their mileage is a BS number. Okay I’m driving freeway speeds but expect to be able to get to a place, say 150 miles away on a charge and make it back 150 miles - if my range is 350. But nope. I’m below 200, say 160 getting to the place, so need to charge. My model 3 also lost charge recently, somewhat suspicious of this with Tesla’s range being focused upon and them being accused of altering odometers and so on. Odd how I lost 20 odd miles, which I gained when I got the car by an update. I really don’t trust Tesla.
Totally agree with your point on the big batteries. Just got a Silverado EV 4WT and sure the range is huge but the amount of batteries in the car is just so. damn. wasteful.
The amount of batteries in this truck could so easily make 3 other long range passenger EVs. Although the 2.5 mi/kwh I’ve been getting so far does seem comparable to other EV trucks I’ve driven. I just can’t get over how stupidly wasteful this truck is.
Not saying that the truck itself is bad - the truck itself is great. Just as a concept it’s quite wasteful. I just leased it because it was by far a cheaper deal than any other EV truck I’d be able to find.
