I need an outdoor custom car cover that will stand up to the elements and last. I have purchased three Covercraft covers over the years and have had to warranty them all. Unfortunately, they rip in specific areas (bumper and side view mirrors) after about a year. While the fit is incredible (the covers stay put in 30+ MPH winds), paying $300 per cover and having them rip/tear in just over a year of use is unacceptable. Also, they are outdoor covers, and I live in California, where the weather is never unpleasant. I also do not remove them often (on average, 2-4 times per month) and follow the care instructions.
I have read some claims that car covers that accommodate side view mirrors will always rip, but I question if the fit will be as good without them.
I am considering Coverking. Does anyone have experience with the brand? Any other brands with personal experience I should look at considering?
I found Budge 5-layer (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01K9NSY4Q) to be pretty good for NY summer. Excellent sun and rain protection. Can’t comment on long term durability though, started garaging after that one summer.
TBH I’d be concerned whether they’re causing more damage than they’re preventing. Any time I’ve seen a covered car in windy conditions, it seems like the cover is rubbing up against the paint constantly
Since it’s stored outside, could become a big issue with dust getting between the cover and paint.
My neighbor has his C7 Vette with a cover in the garage during the winter when he’s not driving it, and told me that’s why he gives up the garage spot instead of his daily.
I check the paint/finish each time I remove the cover and have never had an issue. Additionally, I rarely wash my vehicle as the dust/dirt protection rating seems accurate (it is incredible how clean the cars stay – they only seem to get dirty when driven). I definitely would not be utilizing it if it was causing damage. I am the type of person who notices scratches that no one else would like Corey Haim’s character in License to Drive.
