AM Radios in Electric Autos

I understand AM radios are not in nearly all EVs and that’s a deal killer for me. Had my heart set on the iX but I won’t do it. Has anybody found an easy fix to this problem?

Getting an AM station on my phone and using bluetooth to play over the car speakers seems impractical to deal with every time I enter the car. Thanks for any responses.

Looks like Ford still have it.

My Volvo and Nissan still have it.

Who told you ‘most’ EVs don’t have it. If you mean Most as in Tesla? Well yes, most EV’s don’t have it.

you can download the am radio app right onto a volvo

Tesla, Rivian, Ford, Polestar, Ford, BMW, Mazda, Volvo to name a few. Congress is discussing legislation to require automakers to keep AM in cars.

Thanks Volvoguy for a possible solution in Volvos. I am considering a Volvo in addition to a BMW. Those BMW lease deals are tempting.

My music streaming apps start playing as soon as I get in the car without me doing anything. Are the radio apps any different?

And honestly whatever changes need to happen to your routine, you might as well accept it. Maybe you can still find a transistor AM radio installed in a car in 2024, chances are those last few are gone by 2027. Just because somebody proposed a bill doesn’t mean it’s gonna happen

BMW iX has wireless carplay/android auto, so it’s literally just like spotify or music.

LOL at Congress framing it as a “safety” issue instead of the obvious “donations from NAB” issue. The majority of people driving cars today wouldn’t even think to turn to AM radio in an emergency, or know what stations to tune.
