Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio to lease or purchase?

A couple of deals I’m working on and I’m looking for pros and cons or opinion on which is best way to go…

Option #1
purchase 2018 MSRP $87k
Purchase price OTD $66k including tax and all fees.
Pmt. $1250 for 60m @ 4.5%

Option #2
Lease a 2019 MSRP $87k
3/36
$1150 all in zero down

All numbers have been rounded off…

Purchase is a no brainer here. Sell after three years if under 36k miles and recoup some of your money. The lease is too expensive here.

Or lease to get rid of it. I hear it’s not very reliable.

Yeah, that’s my only worry is in 3 years in takes a huge hit with newer models the market having much more competition with lease returns.

I keep thinking purchase but then it’s more risk.

There is absolutely zero chance I would buy an Alfa of any kind right now. Too much risk, IMO.

If you are going to purchase buy used. Let someone else take the hit.

The used are more expensive than the new 2018 hence the only reason I’m thinking about a purchase. The it is being taken by Alfa and the dealer I’m looking at $25k off MSRP

If my math is correct it only has to be worth 22k at the end of the 3 years for the purchase to be better than the lease.

Not enough info. What’s the cap cost on the lease option??? Surely not MSRP.

Not a lot of used/CPO ones on autotrader, but it appears as though they’re not completely tanking in value initially. At least not compared to realistic purchase price.

What’s an extended warranty and maintenance package cost? I’ve heard that maintenance costs on the 2.9TT are crazy.

My math was slightly higher but same ball park. Buying seems to be the way to go.

I took the maintenance and extended warranty stuff completely out of the equation. Over 2-3 years lease or buy it’s the same maintenance and warranty.

Not sure really why the cap cost on the 19 is a question as I would never be purchasing the 2019 after my term was up but it is $70,300

Will they not let you lease the 2018?

I’d be very hesitant to buy given long term prospects of Alfa in the US, reliability etc. Even the press/magazine cars had issues.

No lease support on 18’s

I can understand the hesitation with AR in regards to reliability, but the Giulia and Stelvio have proven to be pretty reliable so far.

Have folks had issues? Absolutely. But it isn’t some widespread epidemic like some make it out to be. From what I’ve seen, a good bit of the issues stem from software, which is more easily fixed. In other words, this isn’t the Alfa of old.

That said, concerns about the dealer network are definitely valid. Seems like smaller dealers aren’t surviving, unfortunately.

I think the one thing you’ll have to remember, unless Carvana/Vroom is still around in 3 years time, when you want to sell, and believe me you will…you may have to deal with the kind of buyer who is actively seeking out a used, high performance Alfa Romeo that is nearing the end of it’s warranty.

Just make sure they don’t come to your house, meet them in a public place etc because that kind of person cannot be mentally stable

Lol, so good. My biggest issue with Alfa is how small their dealer/service network is. My wife has a Stelvio (in SoCal) and it’s quite the ordeal to get service and the service we get isn’t that great!

It hasn’t been out long enough to warrant that claim that they are reliable. If a manufacturer has trouble with 1-3 year old cars, no matter the model, people are going to be very wary about owning one 4-10 years, especially out of warranty.

All good points…I don’t believe Alfa as a brand is any worse than BMW or Mercedes. I’ve owned most brands and had issues with every brand at one time or another. Actually the only brand I have not had one issue with is Buick  I believe technology is advancing so fast they are lagging behind and that’s causing most technical issues. I’ve had issues with my Stelvio but Alfa has stood behind any issues I have had. I believe technicians are not as good as they should be. The dealership service network is week at best.

One thing you can’t say is that I will want to sell it in 3 years, have you driven this car? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Another thing is IF I buy I’m gonna end up with a better price as I have not finished my negotiations. I’m still trying to get another $4k off. So if I buy it low it makes more sense to buy…my lease offer is as good as I’m gonna get so I’ll keep pushing the buy

Id buy with an exit strategy of 1 1/2 years. Have my fun and then pass the risk onto some other sucker.
