My daughter’s Highlander got totaled & she needs a new ride in the ~$10k neighborhood. Thought I had a 2017 Impreza for her w/93k mi @$9000 but inspection turned up a bad head gasket and in general I’m a bit nervous about cheap used. AWD & something she can sleep in the back of is ideal bc she’s a climber who does a lot of car camping in the mountains. Has to be ultra-reliable bc she has a 50-mile round trip commute. Think I can get a Forester or CX50 down into that range, maybe via a one-pay lease? Other ideas?
Open to electric?
Contact the Mazda brokers in CA. Some also do Subarus as well.

You cannot equate buying a car with leasing a car just because both nominally cost $10,000.
The effective costs are way different.
Possibly. Charging network doesn’t yet seem ideal for spur-of-the-moment trips to the mountains, but given her daily commute, she’d save a grip on cash.
CX-30 AWD. Impreza or Crosstrek

If my daughter was a climber and car camper in the Sierras, Cascades, Siskiyous or Coastal Range I would not be looking at most used cars.
Too much left to chance with that use case scenario, and while new is no guarantee I know what type of setup I would be looking at.
