I was in a wreck with my Tesla M3 on Feb 4th while in autopilot. I rear ended a car while it hit a deer (that deer is fine) on a road. I was going 40 or 45 mph. I have had my car fixed since then. It was in the work shop for two months.
I have tried contacting tesla to understand why i didnt get any warnings or why the car didnt engage in emergency brakes. No official response from them despite them telling me i will be contacted in 6 weeks by their engineering team.
My questions:
is there anything i can do i.e take legal action
can i ask them to forgo my lease payments for the two months the car was in repair shop
Or just blame myself for engaging autopilot and relied on advanced computer algorithm.
The car doesn’t have autopilot. It has an adaptive cruise control with a bad marketing name that specifically informs you that you’re in charge of paying attention and retaining control of the vehicle.
Be glad you didn’t hurt anyone other than your car.
I think just blame yourself. From what I understand Tesla claims “autopilot” is not fool proof. Also, I think from a legal perspective, you’re still supposed to be in control of your vehicle. No matter what automation may be in place. Maybe a lawyer on the forum can chime in.
AP is not a substitute for remaining alert and ready to take over in it’s current iteration. Just be glad you’re asking here and not TMC/Other Tesla forums where inevitably someone would say your AP should be disabled by Elon.
Pretty appalling that Tesla’s software failed to brake in what seems like a relatively simple setup. Glad to hear you’re okay though. What were the road conditions like?
Honestly if you want to get Tesla’s attention, make a Twitter and tweet about the accident. Try to get the attention of one of the Tesla shorts so it can be amplified
I thought about posting it on Twitter but honestly thats not what i want… i just want to know why the freak did the car not give any warnings… can this incident improve their AP and can they acknowledge that they need to improve their software… as you all said… I came out of the accident without a scratch and no one got hurt (even the freaking deer). So a win win situation… just doesnt feel right… also my insurance hiked my rates…even when i sent them the footage of the accident (recorded by Tesla cam)
Nah. Loaner while P3D waits for parts. Nice ride but I’d be terrified to own an early build outside of warranty (I wouldn’t drop 100K+ on one of these new, not that crazy about it)
They are getting cheaper on the used market though which is cool to see but we took the sensible approach and ordered a Model Y instead for our EV crossover fix.
You sent the insurance company the footage of you failing to retain control of the vehicle and crashing into someone and you’re surprised they raised your rates?
