Adding remote start to a 2019 5 series BMW

,

My BMW lease did not come with remote start and wondering if I would be allowed to have it installed since it’s a lease. I would have the dealer do it if that’s the only way for it not to violate the warranty/lease terms but it would be more expensive.

thanks
Joe

Not sure, but wanted to comment that when shopping for a 530 I was shocked they didn’t come standard with remote start.

yeah, thought it was going to break the deal with my wife but she loved so much else about the car that we got it. Now trying to figure out if I can get this done but from what I can tell, I dont think BMW offers a remote start with this car. If I have to do aftermarket, that may be an issue so trying to see what others do.

Looking at the wiring diagram to put in the OEM Remote Engine Start system, it is probably best to have the dealership install it. I doubt that they would ding you for the accessory on lease return.

You can find the wiring diagram at this bimmerfest post: https://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=934290

Thanks I think I’ll check with some dealers and get prices. I imagine if done by dealer there would be no issue in a return.

unlikely the lease return inspector is going to even see it unless it’s obvious, of course there’s always a small chance

I asked about this and they said with the fiber optics it’s very glitchy and recommended against it…bmw forums might have some better answers

I’ll see what the dealer says, thanks

You can just use the BMW connected app to do what u need…its always freezing cold in my 530 in the morning so I just activate the climate control 5 min b4 and its amazing. You can also set a timer (like different activation times for any day of the week) which would work well for you if you have a fixed schedule.

I keep forgetting about this. Thanks for the reminder. It’s been c-o-o-o-o-l-d this week.

There won’t be an issue with return period. Years ago I had a 3rd party install a remote starter in multiple cars that didn’t have it. Nobody said a word about it. As long as it’s not causing the check engine light to fire every time you turn on the car, or cause the alarm to get pissed off and yell at you, nobody will even notice it.

That said, if you really want it, I’d strongly suggest paying the premium and going through a BMW dealer vs a 3rd party. I read a thread where someone had a starter installed a couple years ago on an F30 I think, and it caused so many quirky problems, they ended up pulling it out, and the installer didn’t charge him. Plus, it won’t void any parts of your warranty should there be issues down the line due to shoddy splicing/installation from a 3rd party.

just a psa since people seem unsure, you can’t get remote start on a g30 5 series, the 530e has precondition for heat/cold( climate control) because it’s electric, the rest of the 5 series have precondition but it doesn’t heat up the car( no climate control just circulates air), it does however defrost windows/mirrors, circulate air in and out of the car, etc. etc. via the bmw connected app.

Aftermarket options will void warranty (talked to multiple techs and service advisors) not only that but some aftermarket options require you to embed the backup key in the car, as well as being expensive($1k+). This topic has been beat to death on bimmerpost and bimmerfest.

tl;dr you can’t get remote start on the g30 5 series.

Do you guys not have the Connected drive app? I just use that

Yeah I had a feeling that BMW doesn’t offer it but with the searching I’ve done it was difficult to say. I have the app and yeah it only circulates air, does not heat anything so I’m out of luck. I’m not ready to use a 3r party install and find out I have issues down the road. Thanks for the info.

I use it but its not remote start or heat

I’m guessing he has a 530e, which does have a heat/cold option.

Yes I have the 530e. It does come with climatize control from the app
