Adding carplay or other best solution

Hi, I’m currently looking at one or two options for an SUV for my wife. I really like the QX60 pure awd at its current price, but still need a good option for hands free navi - which is essential. I would like to add a good aftermarket option if there is something sensible and reasonable. Any suggestions for a good hack to solve this? (I would have a pro install but don’t want to attempt a DIY).

Maybe better to look at a different car if it’s mandatory. It’s not going to be cheap to buy the unit, and then pay to have it installed and uninstalled at lease end.

QX60 is a great value but tech is terrible. What is your other option?

Thanks very much. Looking at NX300. Coming off a Nissan lease so an SL Rogue or bigger is also an option.

Geez. My 2005 Odyssey has hands free navi. Infinti :rofl::rofl:

Do they really not offer a navigation option?!

It must be a real adventure every time you drive through a relatively new neighborhood or shopping plaza

Next trim up - with navi - is ~$80 more/month - which takes away a lot of what makes the deal attractive. And that’s Infiniti navi. Carplay from Infiniti is not an option.

It’s HILARIOUS when you’re on a newly constructed highway and it goes into full panic mode

It’s DVD based and still supported by Honda. One could buy an update disc, if one were inclined to sink an unnecessary $100 into a $2500 van  I think my disc is from 2007. Obviously the POI’s aren’t very useful haha.

@squasher I would just look at something else. CarPlay and/or Android Auto is pretty much standard on everything besides Infiniti. I have no idea what kind of a deal you’re looking at but Infiniti’s aren’t leasing so spectacularly as to warrant compromising on required features for one.

If you’re like me, you just like having a map for situational reference anyway (not so much for play-by-play navigation from A to B). Gives me a general idea of where I’m at and for some reason, that’s just very comforting

100% same way. She’s been on mute since I bought her

Buy phone mount, put phone on mount, launch favorite maps app, done

Maybe take a look at the Nissan Murano. My 2019 Murano SV has full integration w/ Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. If you’re located in the NY Metro area, @aronchi has some pretty good deals on them from time to time. Its a very nice SUV, but only a 5-seater, you may be looking at the QX60 for 7-seats.

Also, there are aftermarket head units you could buy for a few hundred, that run Android and have add-on devices that allow for full Apple CarPlay integration along w/ the native Android Auto. Here’s a Youtube video where the poster says the head unit was $250 and another $30 for the device to integrate CarPlay.

I’m checking w/ a friend, there may be a way to integrate directly w/ the Infiniti OEM units, but as mentioned do you want the expense and hassle for doing / undoing any mods on a leased vehicle?

All said, the car mount option may be the fastest / cheapest way to go.

Much appreciated. I don’t want to go through the headache if it’ll cost a few 100 bucks. I don’t think my wife would end up using a separate unit. Looks like I might have to look elsewhere. Thanks so much all!

A phone mount might be a good idea… CarPlay is not as user friendly as it seems, at least for my cars… none of them has touch screen so it’s a pain to use from touch pad and control nubs.

I only have it in a car with a touch screen and it’s great, so i imagine you’re probably right about the touchpad & control knobs being the issue.
