Acura MDX or BMW X7

Texas - DFW or Houston metro

I’m looking to lease (corporate lease) a BMW X7 or Acura MDX. Has any one leased either of these and if so, what was your experience particularly with maintenance? Also, any current deals with either dealership?

Are you looking for something on the ground or custom build in regards to X7?

These 2 vehicles aren’t in the same stratosphere, imo. I leased an X7, highly recommend. Went looking for another and couldn’t find it for less than 50% of the total cost on a 3 year lease, give or take. Didn’t see the value.

You are right about that. Were you able to get a good deal on a lease?

See what you’re local broker @IAC is offering on a x7

It’s a better buy than a lease but if you can one-pay it saves quite a bit on interest.

Thanks. Buy is not an option at the moment.

X7 is double the payment of MDX. If you can/want to, go for it, it’s a better car in every way.
For BMW you can easily find a broker on LH and get a good deal without too much work, but not a whole lot have connections with Acura.
A-spec for Acura is the best deal as it’s got 1% higher residual compared to advance. Type-S leases are terrible due to extremely high MF.
Acura offers 2 yr free maintenance, BMW offers 3.

Would you consider Q7? :slightly_smiling_face:

Haven’t looked at it but would consider it. Just need a safe, reliable “luxury” SUV with 3rd row.

xc90 is the way to go then.

X7 is superior in everything compared to this. They aren’t competitor’s right?

We had mdx and its v6 sucks. Sounds unrefined, low torque for a v6. The car is spacious and good value for the money but I got rid of it to get a bimmer. Go with X7 for sure over mdx. Not even a comparison

No, it’s basically impossible. You’d need upwards of 20% off on the sales price for even a decent deal (imo) on a lease for this and that’s not realistic (I hunted about 2 dozen dealers in multiple regions and couldn’t even get close before I threw in the towel last month). This is mainly due to MF, RV, and lack of incentives from the manufacturer. When I originally leased mine, it was a different environment. This time around, I searched for a heavily optioned 40 and with an MSRP around $90k, I couldn’t get below $1400 or so a month IIRC, and I consider myself a highly skilled hacker. Basically, the cost is going to be more than 50% of the vehicle in 3 years which doesn’t make any sense in a lease.

As @IAC mentions, buying from a TCO standpoint makes more sense in the current environment on an X7. Based on the deals I’ve seen in his posts and your questions, I’d say your best bet is to work with him if he’s local to avoid haggling and get the best deal you’ll find if you aren’t an extremely skilled/knowledged buyer.

I can’t speak much on the MDX as I’ve never shopped it and aren’t familiar. I can say though that the MDX and X7 aren’t really competitors nor to my rough knowledge of the MDX are in the same price range.

Fwiw the MDX now has a turbo V6 option

You just can’t compare a MDX to a x7. No comparison there. One is a legit 7 seater while the other not so much.

X7 vs GLS would be a legit debate

We’re on our 3rd 3-year lease on a MDX Tech, second one at $400/mo+taxes and $2k DAS. I’m pretty certain that X7 is a much better vehicle, but it is also much more expensive. The MDX is a mom car. My wife loves it. It’s big. The current one has parking sensors so she’s actually avoided scrapes on the corners, although it has a lot of curb rash on the wheels. There are about 5 or 6 in the neighborhood, all driven primarily by moms. The base model comes pretty loaded, but my wife can’t live without puddle lights, so we’ve been paying like $3k more for the Tech.

Maintenance on the Acura is every 6 months - $120 for the oil change and $200 with the tire rotation. It used to be cheaper, but it’s gone up with inflation. They also wanted $100 to change the engine air filter and cabin air filter at the 2 year mark. I bought them on Amazon for $15 and did it myself. Also do the wind shield wipers myself. We usually get a couple of recalls per lease, and they give us a loaner for the day.

Add increase in MSRP from pre- refresh as well. When we got our current MY20 nicely loaded models would be around 85k for M sport, now its north of $90k easy.

No real comparison between both vehicles but I noticed that Acura kind of copied a lot of small things in the new MDX from the X7. If your looking for lower payments, then definitely go with the MDX and sacrifice on power and drivability. If you want a more enjoyable drive then be ready to pay higher.

Thanks for the feedback. That’s exactly what we need it for. The mom car.
