Acura Buy Out Question

Hello Hackrs! My wife is considering buying out her MDX. The dealer we leased from here in NJ told us today that Acura requires some inspection on the car before they can sell it back to to us. They told us it was $800 just to put it on the lift and check the car, and about another $3200 for the extended warranty. Is this right, both the fact of the inspection and the approximate cost?

Thanks for the help!

Absolutely not required. Contact Acura financial and see if they’ll let you buy out directly.

If not find another Dealer.

Sounds like BS. Never leased an Acura but have bought out several leases from BMW, Ford, Mercedes, Kia, Subaru. All of them but Ford were very straightforward purchases through the financs company. Ford required it be done at a dealer. I’d call the finance company directly.

I will never return to this dealer for anything (service, etc.). Your car might not even be out of warranty even (4yr/50k).

We did this with our MDX. Our credit union handled everything directly with Acura Financial Services. No need to go through dealership.

*Test drives and coffee notwithstanding

Acura Financial owns the car, talk to them.

Don’t talk to the dealer

edit: typos

Agree that you can talk to Acura FS directly to get this done. Even for Acura dealers many offer free lease-end inspection (cos they wanna have the opportunity to sell you a new one). The one u visited is full of BS. Plus share the name.

Acura Dealers cannot ‘inspect’ your vehicle to the satisfaction of AFS.
Kia forces dealers to not charge BS fees UNLESS the names on the title is changing, then they can.

OP, if your title is not changing, just call AFS and buy it out. If it is changing, well you might have a more complicated deal.

The quoted extended warranty cost seems sky high too

Are you not seeing the option online? I still have 4 payments left, but I have the option to just pay it directly from my chase account
