So the unthinkable has happened, my almost 3 week old car got rear ended. Luckily me and my family is ok. It was a 4 car accident(A,B,C,D). My car and one in front of me was parked, car C was parked illegally and failed to signal and yield when it took off. Car D didn’t hit the brakes in time and hit Car C causing the driver to rear end me(B) in turn my car left plate screw indentations marks on Car A. I’m trying to prep for worst case scenario, a total loss. I have a couple of concerns, anyone that can chime in with experience would be greatly appreciated.
How much of a PITA will it be to deal with NMAC regarding a total loss?
I got a great deal on this car due to the NJ ChargeUP program. Any concerns I should have regarding this rebate?
Should I start reaching out to the dealer, reading through the forums it seems this car might’ve not been funded yet?
Since it’s a brand new car, hopefully it just needs a new quarter panel and hatch and isn’t a total loss - assuming you got a hood deal here. Is it drivable?
Yes, I was able to drive it back home. I’m hoping that it’s the quarter panel and the hatch only as well. I got a good deal on the car so my hope is to keep it until lease maturity.
You’ll have to contact them and request an exception. Para 1 also mentions replacement vehicles, which may or may not apply. Seems they left this all in the hands of the administrator.
Call insurance, file a claim and let them go after the insurance for the car that hit you.
Take to a reputable shop. Lucky it’s a lease and you don’t take the hit of the excess depreciation with an accident on the Carfax. I’d be upset if that was my new car and someone hit me.
Hoping is not a loss, so far I have paid $0 out of pocket for the car. The officers on the scene told me the driver seems to have accepted responsibility. Police report should be available at the end of the week. We both have GEICO, I am not going through my policy cause I want to avoid the deductible. I was pretty pissed on the scene, nothing else can be done so I’m cool now. Just glad it wasn’t nothing more serious.
I agree with NOT going through your insurance. I made that mistake once and, because renewal came up prior to the case being settled, my rates went through the roof. I complained of course but they didn’t care one bit.
Sorry to hear, so if I’m understanding correctly car C is going to liable for A, B, and D’s damages?
Yes good thing it’s a lease you don’t have to sweat depreciation. Very unlikely they total that unless somehow there’s frame damage which is unlikely–rear wheel looks straight.
Operating off of the pics here, looks like the rear bumper/bumper support took the brunt of it. So the amount of frame straightening if any will hopefully be fairly straightforward (no pun intended).
This could easily amount to nearly $10k in damage but that wouldn’t total it.
