A hard choice - Lemon Law ends the Jeep 4xe - what to do?

The original post said nothing about the case being approved. It said “here are the two routes im trying to pursue” and the details don’t jive (collateral swap for a new 22?). Those are the sort of things the community can help give guidance on.

Determining if one likes their 4xe more than their leaf? What are we supposed to do with that? What help could we offer?

Thank you! Yes I’m not looking for guidance on the nuance of lemon law, I’m looking at the financial pros and cons (isn’t that what we’re all about here at LH?) about which way to pursue this. My long term move is toward a fisker ocean which will arrive maybe late next year, so I need to play this in the most economical way to get to that point.

Do you need 2 cars or can you survive with 1? The most economical thing seems to be cash out of 1 car while you can and save yourself 2 payments till the Fisker comes

One car is fine (I have a Ram on lease elsewhere). I’ll either keep the ioniq or the Jeep for the next period. It’s just a question of which.

Just in case anyone cares - I made Jeep buy the 4xe back and received a full refund minus a small mileage offset. They also paid for the rental, through turo of a vehicle for 3 months. I learnt a lot along the way and if anyone wants advice on how to proceed, drop me a line.

Was this actually an option on the table?

Yes in the original mediation paperwork but I didn’t request it in the end. As my other 4xe has just developed the same issue I think I’m ready to drive something else.

What issue are you having?

The hybrid system failed after 6 months. They originally wanted to hanged the transmission, then changed to an inverter but they couldn’t get one (3 months and counting)

What symptoms are your new one having?

When you say fail, what was it doing?

Engine light and hybrid system inoperable. Wouldn’t start first time and ran rough.

I hope it’s ok to use this thread… I am looking for advice about my 4xe and a few of you seem to have gone down this road before. Here is the Skinny:
Got my Rubi 4xe early in 2022 with expectations of a cheap DD that is plug in hybrid.
ZERO problems and awesome mileage (averaged 1000+ miles per tank) and hybrid/electric worked as expected. Come to September/October 2022 and about 5k miles… thats when all s&%t started to not work.
FORM coming on all the time… electric mode unavailable… hybrid not really acting like hybrid… etc…
Going on 4-5 separate trips to the dealer (the longest taking 5 weeks) Replaced battery heater, replaced main stereo/infotaimnent system, 3 or 4 recalls for fuses and many “updates” to the computer.
After the most recent 2 day trip to the dealer last week and a total of 4 days of great functioning it’s back again… Now it has to go back AGAIN for the 5th or 6th time since September.
Would Jeep replace my Rubi with a new one? do they buy back ? What can I do to prepare for this. This back and forth to the dealer is unacceptable for a 10-11 month old car with 7,5xx miles on it.
Thanks in advance and sorry for long form rant.

What is it doing?

Going in for recalls isnt going to trigger much, but depending in your state and the amount of in service time, talking to a lemon attorney would be the best path forward for pushing for a buy back.

How much time has it spent in service?

Random FORM mode events when it should not. Also when in Hybrid mode if you accelerate a little more to use the gas it also triggers FORM mode and then can’t get back into electric mode unless you shut off the car and re-start.
Total time in the shop was probably 6 weeks total over 4 separate trips. Now it has to go back in again.

This is step 1 of FORM. It isnt a random FORM event, it is doing what it is supposed to do.

Itll let you start out in electric, but if you trigger the engine for whatever reason, it stays on until engine reset. Its due to a lower calculated fuel dilution level in the oil.

If your calculated fuel dilution level increases, it will enter step 2 of FORM, which triggers the engine to come on immediately and totally locks you out of electric only.

If your calculated fuel dilution level reaches a critical level, youll enter step 3 of FORM, which prompts to change the oil immediately.

So it’s normal for FORM to be triggered in just 5 days after a full FORM process. (When it happened last week I drove highway speeds for over an hour in FORM mode and then it was behaving perfectly for 4-5 days until this AM when it triggered another FORM… To be honest… for the 1st 6-7 months of owning this Jeep it never did FORM like this. Something is not right.

Curious as to what you decided to do?

I was just informed that my '22 Sahara 4xe needs a new battery heater and there is no ETA on when the part will be delivered.

Made Jeep buy it back for a full refund minus a little for the mileage I’d covered. Took a long time but worked out fine.

Electric coolant heater, not battery heater, is what’s been plaguing a lot of them.

They seem to be usually taking 2-3 weeks to show up for most dealers, even when quoted longer.
