4xe Lease - Would you walk away?

Is this a deal you’d walk away from? Let me start from the beginning…

Back in December I placed an order for a new Wrangler 4xe with Hermiston CDJR for which we had agreed on a price and payment. Upon it’s arrival last week I was shocked when they wouldn’t honor the agreed sales price and the payment was over $100 off from estimated. Check out the docs in my link.

Sure residuals and interest rates change, but they added $4,000 to the selling price, as well as almost another $3,000 in unexplained costs. I nearly fell out of my seat!

From when I ordered in December:

From when I went to pick up in March:

  • Here is their lease sheet https://i.imgur.com/2Q6Q977.jpg
  • I asked for residual, money factor, etc but didn’t receive a copy of anything else
    • It should be 63% residual and 0.00144 (base mf) - 0.00217 is almost 1% APR more.

Doing the math, it seems like they tried to charge me $6,400 more for the lease after it arrived. https://i.imgur.com/7Zb1h9I.png

End of the day, lesson learned. I think I’ll just find a new dealership, or I should try one of the brokers here.

Id run, not walk

For $500 and even shipping it has always been a no-brainer to go with a broker on 4xe.

That sucks. I can imagine your frustration.

Broker is probably the safest way to go imo. There are a few here that offer solid 4XE deals. I got one myself with @AutoCompanion and could not be happier.

What approach did they use when they said they were not going to honor the discount?

I dealt with them mostly over email and text so I can quote them:

Unfortunately I’m this situation we are not able to meet or exceed your expectations.
I also stated that any prices or payments sent would not be set in stone and subject to change. Currently or best offer payment is $595.

So with that last message from them, my take is they got greedy and they have a new car.

Mine was robbed from me and dealer wanted $13,500 more than agreed, case is with my attorney general. My 4XE broker general @Clutch got me one.

I assume you do not have a copy of the initial purchase agreement signed by the Dealer. If you did, then you might be in a better position.

I do but is the time and expense of going through a legal process worth it? :frowning: Probably not.

Contact the GM and lay it to him straight, let him know how you feel and what the situation is and ask that they honor their agreement. Don’t threaten consequences.

What would you expect their reaction to be though?

They will tell you to kick rocks

I don’t think this is going to go in your favor. I would use the sales price that was disclosed when you placed the order and use current CCAP numbers without markup. I would not budge from there. I don’t know what recourse you have but I think the dealer should be penalized if they have too many sold orders that do not end up in the customers possession. Sorry about your luck but I would cut bait if they start playing games and use a broker on this forum or one of the dealers that do not play these games. I assume you did not place a deposit on this order?

Leave a review everywhere detailing the bait and switch. I wouldn’t let a dealer get away with a free car they are getting outside of allocation.

Go with @Clutch asap, great experience with their services and their dealer.

I’d walk on the basis of it being a Wrangler plain and simple, but yeah…If they’re trying to screw around on a previously agreed upon deal go tell them to pound sand.
