4k miles & no carfax?

Hi,

I just went to MB dealership, took a look at a 2017 C300 Sedan with 4394 miles on it, with a good end of the year deal for a lease. I had thought it was a fleet vehicle.

There is no CarFax for it. When I was asked, I was told it did not get entered into the system. It would show up as a New Vehicle.

Is this normal? Are there questions I should ask?

Thanks,
Dana

I would guess that the floor manager (or the owners mother-in law) needed something to drive. They’ll give you a mini-deal to have given a free-perc to special people.

Yes it sounds like someone at the dealership used the car thus avoiding registering it as new. As with demo cars and loaners, you do not need a carfax so don’t sweat that. The good news as Masterblaster said is you have an opportunity for a much stronger discount on the vehicle.

Okay, great.

One more question then - I have a Star Alliance Discount of $2500 on the model through Smith Barney Partnership.

They did not think it qualified because it is used, but its being listed as “New.” Do you know if it should still apply?

They are supposed to be checking on it, to give me an answer.

All incentives and discounts should still apply assuming the car didn’t get RDR’d (Put into MB system as sold in order to hit a bonus or target).

This is a demo unit, so it would still be considered new as it was never registered. It’s normal for nothing to be on the carfax.

Sorry, I’m not familiar with that one nor (evidently) is the dealership. Perhaps some of the other posters will chime in here.

If the car was not RDR’d, all incentives / fleet should be apply

There are records on carfax for demo/loaner.

Right now, focus on the original MSRP and obtaining 25% off MSRP (At least) as the sales price. Don’t tell them about the Smith Barney certificate yet, otherwise they will use this as “their” money…

Also start researching Money Factor and Multiple Security Deposits (aka MSD) in this forum …

Only if they reported something themselves. Not all dealers do.

They usually do on demo/loaners. At least all that I’ve seen had records.

New cars can have lots of miles on it. For the purpose of ‘new’ it cannot be registered. That’s it.

If someone drove it around for 4000 miles without it being properly registered (such as dealer or manufacturer plates), you are covered as a new car…with 4000 miles on it.

how do you exploit offers like these and find them or even entertain one to a dealer?

You visit a LOT of dealers and see…these are things that each dealer might offer. Not all dealers have demo cars

Well it seems that they did put into MB system as sold (perhaps for the bonus as you mentioned). They say they cannot honor the Star Alliance.

Unclear if its for that reason or if they’re just unwilling to go lower on price. They had already offered 10k off MSRP before I mentioned Star Alliance.

Thanks for all the help.
