Like most things, it’s hard to take them away from people once you give them. I think they viewed it as an opportunity to get some goodwill and increase sales. It might have just been easier to create a separate portal for verification purposes. My job has peace officer status, which is technically a “first responder” by many definitions, just not GM’s. Their ID.me portal would not verify my identification. I’m guessing that Healthcare employees probably gave their systems similar problems that required a separate solution.
