We just can’t do ford/GM. I know a Tahoe might be a good choice but even the Denali specs (prior to the 2023 improvements) feel super cheap inside. Just low quality all around.
Escalade is very nice in my opinion. But I understand.
Might as well go X7 if spending escalade money.
I hate to say it, but those are almost all smaller than the Honda Pilot, in practical applications.
We spent a grueling two days riding and driving every new SUV out there and nothing could beat the Pilot’s design for our family of 5. It’s shocking how small a vehicle like the QX80 actually is inside.
The X7 is 11% smaller in cargo space.i agree with the other posters who pointed you to the Lexus Texas and the Grand Highlander.
GX is a 2 row utility vehicle -
Did you look at the CX-90? rates are stupid low for them
Lexus TX will be a home run - V6 with hybrid -
We owned a Pilot back in the day and I used to work for Honda Corporate (big Honda). Spent time in Tokyo.
HELL No. that’s all I’m gonna say.
Could you say more?
Rather keep this thread on track.
But there’s a reason why Honda has consistently been dropping in reliability rankings. They’re a joke compared to Toyota anymore.
Definitely take a look at the Xc90. Have owned two and going on the third pretty soon and have no complaints. Fits 7 adults with room for their stuff while being slightly more compact than the two Germans. I owned 3 gls before the Volvos and liked them as well and honestly it’s a wash, the Volvo drives better has amazing drive modes offers a plug in hybrid and gets amazing gas mileage, but the gls has slightly more room for 3rd row and cargo. Those are the only big differences . As a cpo option I also own a Mazda cx-9 and I absolutely love it as well, roomy while being compact, amazing powertrain I don’t even know I’m driving a 3 row. Pretty luxurious especially in the signature trim. Only gripe is oil changes, it’s every 5,000 miles it feels like it pisses oil other than that I’ve had no maintenance (unlike the euros w brakes and tires every 15,000 miles or so). If you do want new, the cx-90 is definitely an option, when I went to look at it- it wasn’t a winner over the cx-9 for me- I’m sure you would feel differently not having a cx-9 prior but that’s my experience. The only advice I can give you on the cx-90 is to get the PHEV, it has the same engine as the cx-9, way better fuel economy, less complex, more refined. The standard i6 is very complex unrefined and not very luxurious while getting slightly worse fuel economy. Definitely look at the telluride and the jeep GcL too I’ve only sat in them but they were fam favorites. Sorry for the long read I wanted to be as helpful as possible with my experience.
Cx-9 is 2.5 turbo - Cx-90 is the 2.5 without the turbo
Cx-9 cpo is a kinda of hot or miss - that turbo engine starts making some weird noises at 40k miles lol - it’s still a great car for the $$ - very similar to the Q7
My wife has officially put the squash on the XC90 and Grand Highlander.
I’m also considering the Lincoln Aviator… but not sure how good they are over time.
Cx-9 also isnt a 3 row suv.
They just mislabled the cargo divider in the trunk as a “seat”.
The new big body range
Yes the Aviator is a good pick. Like you said idk about longevity, ford is slightly very slightly more reliable than the other Americans worth a shot. I find this thread so funny because my family is the same way with brands. No GM, No Toyota, no Honda and no stellantis but that’s a different story they make good vehicles otherwise. Years ago it was so difficult to find a 3 row option but now there are just so many options it’s hard to choose so I feel your pain. best of luck!
The volvo is not in the same league as the x7 or Gls.
Go for the 130 then
Aviator is a nice Explorer. It’s really nice when it’s new, but IMHO, the interior doesn’t age well, at least compared to Japanese brands. But it should be fine for the first 4-5 years. Third row is larger than Highlander, but trunk space is limited with the third row up, which is the case with pretty much every mid size suv.
Model X just had its price reduced significantly
If you’re concerned about MPG then 3rd row large SUV should be out of your list. If you plan on owning a used German you should look into warranty. If you want to fit everyone comfortably then your choice is a minivan such as Sienna or Odyssey. There are not many luxury full-size SUV for $70K new if mpg is a concern majority are V8.
I had an Armada rental recently. It’s definitely not that spacious for 3-rows of passengers plus luggage considering how big it is on the outside.
The third row is more useless than any crossover I’ve driven because, despite the second row having ample legroom, none of that can be distributed to the third row. The second row did not slide forward and back. It’s fixed in the position for maximum second row legroom and minimum for the third row.
Revisiting this thread now that my wife and I are ready to buy an SUV for her.
We just checked out a Lincoln Aviator and LandRover Discovery… both were impressive interiors with enough space for us.
Anyone have any feedback on the Discovery or Aviator?
We plan to pay cash for a CPO and own for 7-8 years.
