2025 BMW i5 x drive 40 vs. m60

Does anyone here know the actual difference between the xDrive 40 and the m60 for the i5? are they the same motors/batteries but tuned different?

I believe they both use this motor with different tuning.

Very interesting, thanks for sharing. Does anyone know if the xDrive 40 can be tuned to emit the same power as the M60?

That sounds like a recipe for motion sickness. BMW gave the m60 active anti-roll bars, a different suspension tune, wider tires, and rear-wheel steering to handle its higher HP.

Is that not part of the M Pro Package that is available on the xDrive40? Including the bigger brakes etc.?

I haven’t seen any electric tuners for BMW. The current output will be locked by software, and I’m not sure there is a way around that yet.

I wonder if the M60 has a smoother ride overall compared the x40? It has a more sophisticated suspension system, right?

:white_check_mark: So, in answer to your exact question:

“Does the M Pro package on the i5 Drive 40 have the same suspension and roll bars as the i5 M60?”

No — it does not. The M60 either comes standard or is capable of being equipped with the more advanced chassis hardware: Adaptive M Suspension Professional, rear-axle (4-wheel) steering, and active anti-roll bars (electric roll-bar actuation). The 40-series with the M Sport/M Sport Pro (sometimes called M Pro) does not include that full set.

If you want the same suspension and roll-bar capability as the M60, you’d have to check if the 40-series has the Adaptive M Suspension Professional + Active Roll Stabilization (or equivalent) listed as options and confirm that they’re installed. But standard/factory spec for the 40 with just M Sport Pro will not match the M60’s chassis hardware.

I just checked the BMW configurator and don’t see any option to add M Suspension or Active Roll Bars to eDrive or xDrive i5’s. Seems like that option is ONLY available on the M60. So it’s an extra $10K if you want the best suspension. Argh!!

Damn Not worth it.
