Thanks for the reference

Still, a much better deal on 540i than Audi A7 prestige package  Almost $300 a month better all else being equal

The Audi Prestige package cars usually have a worse lease program compared to the premium plus programs. If you’d consider a P+, it could be worth running the numbers on one - it might be a bigger difference in payment than the msrp difference would suggest. Probably still more than the bmw though. (And if you know you’d only want it with prestige package, then ignore this comment!)

Didn’t even know 550e existed. And it has less HP than the previous M550

While we’re on the topic of some alternate vehicles to talk @pabramovich out of a 540i, the Mercedes CLE coupe (not convertible) has not been selling well and some crazy-good incentives are on the table to help dealers blow them out.

Norcal dealers on LH are dumping them at like 18% off MSRP (before MB Loyalty, which it seems nobody qualifies for anyway).

If you want ICE but don’t use the rear doors very often, they can be super cheap compared to the new E class.

He’d have to clear three hurdles on the A7 Prestige:

  1. Audi ICE leases are generally worse than BMW’s (not to mention being much worse than their own EV leases)
  2. A7 has always been a “pay to play” vs A6
  3. Same with Prestige vs P or P+ cars.

At least OP did not choose RS7 Prestige, lol.

I am guessing he’d want a 450 not a 300 - if at all - and those are not going to be that much cheaper. I have a loaded low mileage loaner lined up (a TH from the East Coast is debating it now) at almost 20% off and it’s about $805 effective on 42 mos lease with fleet or club.

PS: Do NOT out it, knowing you, you’ll find it in minutes. I’ll share if this TH falls off.

Another member had suggested that you buy it, hence my comment.

Then take the deal you have for 10% off MSRP.

It is an okay deal. Good luck.

Here you go. This is the 540 you should be purchasing

Then don’t sign a 39m lease. Run the numbers on a 24m.

24 month leases are awful for BMW

Thank you for your opinion but can you please elaborate on your statement of “it’s an ok deal”? Any lease deal depends on 4 inputs: MSRP, RV, MF, Selling price. The MSRP is what it is. The RV you want to be as high as possible so at 57% it’s actually pretty good these days. The MF is .0018 which is also not bad in today’s market (4.5%). Selling price is 10% discount. Which part of this deal is just an ok deal?

You forgot to mention rebates. You are only getting $2k in reabtes. BMWFS does not need to heavily incentivize this car given it is a new model year. As recommended, I would look into the 550e just to compare pricing.

I’ve made my point already. At the end of the day, it’s your money.

The best 5-Series gen ever, IMHO. One of my mentors has the M5 from that gen. Sigh….

I don’t know. My wife had a 2021 530i and now she has a 2024 530i and she loves both cars

I used to own one of those. It was a great vehicle.

I’ll take a stab at trying to bridge the gap… but doing so will require some empathy lol.

So LH by and large is full of active users that mostly like low payments in lieu of getting the actual car they want. Leases are a novel financing instrument, and the complexity they introduce with residuals, acquisition fees, money factors, and EV $7,500 rebates is meant to give sales people a leg up to really rip most off-the-street folks a new one if the customer isn’t careful.

But, as with all complex things, leases are ripe for opportunists to find a vehicle and combination of incentives that is effectively “broken”. This is what people here proudly boast as “hacked” lease. A lease so screwed up the buyer is basically paying zero depreciation and has almost no rent charge. The Unicorn of bargains.

Sometimes automakers prop the residual way too much, and are putting way too much rebates on the hood (the EV $7,500 has been perceived as a boon to many LH users).

But as with all bargains, the reason the bargain was so cheap was something was wrong with the car itself, or the manufacturer produced too many. Maybe it’s a loaner/demo that has excessive farts. Maybe it’s a junk EV that nobody wants, maybe it’s a junk EV the automaker needs to farm carbon credits. Maybe it’s a terrible combination of options/color that every other normal buyer would turn their nose to.

When I look at your posts, it seems you just want a BMW to drive for around 36 months to then cycle into a new Bimmer. It turns out what you want is basically what hundreds of thousands of other BMW customers want. So you won’t find many bargains since you’re basically targeting a vehicle with a very healthy general population audience.

So, a 10% off MSRP deal at buy rate with little incentives (since BMW doesn’t offer much on a ICE 5 series) is probably the best you’ll be able to do. It presents a very fair and reasonable price for someone to stay in a nice BMW of their choosing. But, LH uses won’t view it that way. They’ll tell you to try and do something else, because they want you to save money.

There’s an unquantifiable utility to each new car buyer/lessee around what it’s worth them to be the first owner in a car with the latest tech. If you were fine with stale air and older tech, you could just go get a CPO and drive it for 12 years.

I suspect you want brand new and always want brand new. And with that desire comes the premium you need to pay. Even with 10% off and the buy rate money factor, the car will be expensive. Maybe you could do 12% off if you keep hunting, but the more you hunt, the more the car could deviate from what you want. All the way to you ending up in some EV haha. If you stay with ICE BMW leases, this site’s general user group won’t support your decision.

LH’s most abrasive users won’t give you kudos for taking such a deal and will tell you how you’re throwing your money away. Even though this forum is about leases, a boatload of users think the only good lease is a cheap lease. After all, they aren’t you. They want low prices while you want to enjoy your car.

I had its little brother, the 530i w/ M Sport and manual transmission for a few years. Always wanted the 540 though.

Wow! Thank you so much for the write up and taking the time!!!
