It replaces the A4. Can’t say I’m sad to see a “true” sedan bite the dust, since it’s getting replaced by a hatch (sedans have never really make much sense to me vs. a hatch). I always thought the current A4 was a bit oddly proportioned, so I think the new model looks much better.
Hopefully, they’ll make an Allroad version and send it to the US.
C&D and MT seem to have different photos, so I’m posting links to both:
Looks good. If BMW continues the design trend of the X3, I think Audi will continue to carve out a nice niche. I assume the next Q5 will be evolutionary similar to this as well.
Ohmigod, I was totally thinking the same thing! Why get an Arteon when you can get this???
Part of the issue (for me) is that BMW is so… inconsistent. How can the 7-Series (which I think looks kind of cool), the X1 (bland but tasteful), and the XM (no comment) come from the same brand AT THE SAME TIME???
I don’t love the new 5-Series (but do think it looks slightly better in person) but think that much of the awkwardness in the design comes from the trying to hide just how enormous the car is (which I assume is a compromise btw the same chassis needing to accommodate ICE and EV batteries).
And, in terms of making the car seem somewhat smaller than it really is, the designers did succeed…
Saw a camouflaged mule in Malibu the other night. Definitely looked like an Audi, smaller than current A6 but bigger than current A4. Tried to talk to the guys driving it but they just grinned at my guessing.
For those still confused about the naming: this is the replacement for both A5 and A4, more like they combine the current 4 and 5 into one car and named it “5”. 4 will be used for their future new etron model : etron a4/s4
