When Mercedes first put ambient lighting in their cars, I thought, “That looks great!” It’s now gone way, way overboard. To be perfectly honest, I find this interior to be very “meh,” although I’m sure many others will LOVE it.
My grandmother has held the iphone upside down numerous times, and complained that she can’t hear the person on the other line, that her phone is broken.
Yes! That’s exactly what I was feeling, but you said it much better. I get that this is the way the industry is moving, but it’s so… obnoxious.
It’s actually be interesting to know what the average age range is. I imagine that, world-wide, there’s a decent enough number of middle-aged folks who are owners who can still handle the tech. And maybe they want to be reminded of their clubbing days?
They look the same on the outside, so why not make them look the same on the inside, too? I think all the R&D $ is being spent on battery packaging and “tech” (MB.OS and AI), so I don’t think they want to spend $ making the interiors for each model range look unique, unfortunately.
I’m sure that even the older age group is becoming more tech savvy but this is a bit much imo. I also feel a touch screen while driving is difficult regardless of age.
Oh, I totally agree w/ the touchscreen, regardless of age. But I think automakers want to move to only touchscreen for a variety of reasons (not the least of which is that it’s probably the cheapest to manufacturer and design).
At least she can handle the iPhone? My grandma has a Nokia brick and all she knows is what she has written down in her phone book: white > * > 3 > green or white > * > 4 > green will call specific people. We saved key numbers in speed dial and the key combos are what she wrote down (include unlocking the phone)…. Her 1991 Ford Fiesta with 60k km still runs and drives fine but I don’t think she’ll drive that or anything else again at this point.
It’s got a radio with a 4 key pin unlock and no power steering or braking. Things back then were just made different…
My dad, in his 60s, is a MB guy through and through. He’s okay when it comes to tech, not great. I am slightly concerned for him when his lease is due on the S, and he gets into the new one.
I took an older family member to test drive a new Genesis GV70. They were absolutely lost with the touchscreen and dial setup. Absolutely hated the new dial shifter as well.
And honestly, touch screen while driving is dangerous, even for me. It’s one thing if you have the option of using a controller or the touchscreen like you do on a BMW, but it’s another thing to get rid of the controller altogether.
That trickle-down design language approach has pretty much been MB’s m.o. for the past half-century, with only rare exceptions like the late-90s E-class (and even then, only really the exterior front-end).
When parked, the driver can make use of the many entertainment options. These include games such as Angry Birds, social media on TikTok, and a Vivaldi web browser. If you’re more about productivity, you can use Zoom to join meetings and there’s a built-in video and selfie camera atop the dash.
I hate the touch screens, I just like the exterior. Interior of last gen I like more.
Give me more knobs and buttons like Cadillac, only if Cadillac actually held its value. Also I would only ever get Cadillac if i was going to get 3 or more of them as they look better the more you have driving in a line.
Life goal is to one day go to places like I’m a US polition/president.
