I am in New York and currently considering the 2024 GLS 450 for financing. I received a quote from a dealer with an MSRP of $93,850. However, he mentioned that there would be a markup of $10,000 due to high demand. Is this markup on the GLS common now?
I am in DFW. Went to MB Plano. Looking for 2024 Gls 450, finance. Told me 5k over MSRP…12/7/23.
Walked away. I also had a affinity/control number for 10% off. They denied me. I have done 2 Transactions with them in the last 6 yrs. and my 3rd party warranty has spend over 23k with their service department. just as a reference.
Here’s a quick checklist to determine if the low-supply but (relatively for the supply) high-demand 7 passenger SUV you’re buying is going to get marked up.
You’re sourcing from a dealer operating within a major metro area. For you, that seems like a Yes.
The GLS450 you want has the AMG line package (which based on your MSRP I’m going to go out on a limb and assume this is a Yes as well.
The dealership has less than 5 of similar GLS450 on the floor in stock. I don’t know which MB dealership you’re going to but take a look at their other inventory.
I think if you’re local to the dealership (like you’ll take the car there for service) they can give you a few grand off that markup. But if you’re just some person showing up from a decent trek away looking for savings, they’ll probably just keep waiting for another buyer on those GLS.
The upside they experience with more unit allocation from MB-USA by rapidly turning the car over probably isn’t worth the $ they lose by dropping that markup.
