2023 BMW M2 discussion

It should be interesting since the last M2 didn’t really have any options. Agree that for a flip take as little as possible, but with the current economy, a flip might not be the guarantee it was a few months ago.

Agreed, I originally planned to flip but since the official reveal (and with the quickly changing market) I am now actually excited to buy and keep the G87 for myself. It just feels like the right size and price for a full-blown M car with a manual transmission. Genuinely excited for taking delivery in April, not sure if I can list it for sale even if flip option is available at the time…

I have a very early M2 deposit at MSRP, delivery would probably be in May. I was planning on driving it for a month or two and then flipping but I’m seriously considering cancelling the deposit. I’d need to make about 4k profit just to break even after taxes and I have doubts as to whether I’ll be able to sell for more than 5k over MSRP. I’m wondering if these will be similar to the new RS3’s which seem to be getting 5k over MSRP at most on private party resale. The M2 looks are polarizing enough that I think demand will be somewhere limited. Leaning towards cancelling my deposit.

Flipping stuff is pretty annoying to me. Like between this and the c8 thread its all just gaming how to maximize flip potential. Would be nice if people who actually wanted the cars could just buy them initially.

Hope we stay restrictive enough from a monetary and fiscal standpoint where this bs ends.

I get your frustration. If it matters, I was originally planning on keeping it but I recently drove a new M3 and kinda hated it to be honest so I’m guessing I won’t like M2 enough to keep it long term. So at this point, I can’t justify buying unless I can at least break even after taxes.

Curious about what you didn’t like? I’ve driven both the F87 M2 Competition and the G82 M4 and found them great for what they’re supposed to be.

On a different note, I think flip potential on most vehicles save stuff like Porsche GT4/GT3s will be tough as the market corrects.

Man, that a shame you didn’t like it. I was just looking at this one last night… it is gorgeous.

For reference, I’m coming out of a 981 Cayman which is arguably one of the best modern driving cars and had test driven a 997 911 immediately prior to driving the M3 so maybe that skewed my opinion. Buy I really disliked the clutch, shifter, power delivery, digital tach, and sound (lack thereof) of the M3. I’m guessing I would have liked it more if it was auto but I don’t want auto. If I had never driven a Porsche I think I would have liked the M3. But it just doesn’t compare to Porsche. Definitely more practical and more bang for your buck though. And the carbon buckets were excellent.

Really surprised to hear this, I had couple of G20 cars and thought even the plain vanilla 330e was pretty good. I would imagine G80 would be a hoot and with its shorter wheelbase G87 would just be a riot. I am also admittedly biased since I am getting one of the first G87s getting delivered in April…

Edit: Just saw your later post. Comparing it to Cayman and 911, it is not surprising that G80 didn’t impress you. Of course a $62k M2 will not be at the 997 level…

I really do understand why people like these cars so much as they do a lot well. But “feel” is everything to me and that’s where Porsche has forever spoiled me.

this is absolutely hideous. it doesn’t have a single redeeming feature. the color looks like baby diarrhea and that nose is awful.

The rims though??? The color doesn’t look like diarrhea in person lol.

Color isn’t my favorite either but the performance is unmatched in the class.

It’s really come down to the headroom.
I and most ppl order CF roof would gladly order ours with slick steel top, but unfortunately it’s not an option in US.

For folks with an order in, which color ?
I went with brooklyn grey

I have a Toronto Red too but might end up switching to Alpine White or Zandvoort Blue…

Not sure how true this is, but…

It is not, BMW blog just published an update saying BMW execs denied the rumors and launch date is still Spring as planned.
