2022 Tesla Model 3 "Standard" or "RWD"

So past weekend I took delivery of one of the first “new” 11/2021 built model 3 RWD depending on where you look they’re designated as “standard” or “base” here are the differences I’ve noticed going from 2021:

  • No Carpets included - cheap move on Teslas end to save pennies.
  • “Heat Package” - included … not quite sure what that is, presumably cars shipping to cold climats have this.
  • Heated everything is standard now, that includes steering wheel and all 5 seats.
  • Going from 5.2 - 5.8s 0-60 is noticeable especially on the highway, but when I give it the Sause rear does swing out a bit before traction corrects I never experienced this in 2021 worst I had with that is wheel hop at full throttle.
  • 272 mile range with no daily/trip settings. Lets you set 100% charge limit for daily needs so presumably this is the larger and heavier LFP battery out of China. When speaking to Tesla employee during delivery he was not able to verify battery manufacturer. Mentioned that previously they we able to see “CATL” is it was LFP, now there’s no designation.
  • Comparing monroney between 21 & 22, the 22 is less efficient - presumably this is the outcome of larger and heavier battery.

Overall I think they made it better for daily needs of average driver but its not doing it for me.

I have (had) a Standard Range Plus order that I put on hold at the old $40k price. Now that they have moved to this much slower version, I don’t think I want it anymore. Probably going to go with the LR AWD. Kind of messed up that they can tank the performance that much and not deliver people what they ordered, but according to what I have read on the Tesla forums, there isn’t much you can do about it.

I locked this one in at $42k you can most definitely still take delivery and flip it.

There isn’t anything you can do. I had a disclaimer that what I originally ordered isn’t available any longer you accept to proceed or cancel and move on.

Do you mean no floor mats?

Correct, no mats.

That must have been overlooked on their part, I would reach out to your advisor…mine came with mats but one key card and when i reached out to my advisor and mentioned it they overnighted one. Could be an oversight on their part.

Its red, so after tax and destination, the total will be right around $45k, which is what the current market value seems to be in my area. Not worth it.

I brought it up in the showroom and they confirmed that no mats in RWD. Website also confirmed. But I may reach out again anyway and see what happens.

Ah makes sense did not know that, I have the LR so assumed it was standard.

It hasn’t been standard on the SR+ for a while.

Some improvements I’ve noticed after few days of commuting:

  • I don’t ever see “reduced regan” or even feel any reduced regen in the morning, with or without preconditioning. The 2021 had reduced regen in the cold temps for at least first 30 minutes of driving even after full departure pre-conditioning.
  • “vampire drain” is not as bad. 2021 would drain upwards of 3% between the time I arrived to and departed from work. I made sure to keep sentry mode, cabin overheat and tesla app on my phone OFF for duration of that time. In comparison 2022 only loses 1%

At least a year now. The model 3 sr+ hasn’t had floor mats for a long time.

Any other improvements? I wonder when that list of new features coming to 2022 m3 will start to roll? Double glazed rear windows will be huge.

I guess I got a freebie with my 21 SR+

I checked the rear door glass and it isn’t double yet. But the word on the street is that this is the new “million mile” battery, too bad I don’t plan to keep it around that long to find out.

Last couple cars I purchased that came with cloth floormats…I immediately swapped them out for OEM/3rd party all weather mats and stashed the factory ones in the basement.
