2022 Pathfinder, Jeep GCL or Hyundai Palisade: Of these 3 cars… which is best to move on

,

3 cars I’m picking from (base need: Captian’s chair + 3rd row + Awd or 4 4w) I need some input on which I’d get the best deal on and just where to start. First time getting a car at 36 :sob:

Nissan Pathfinder
Jeep grand Cherokee
Hyundai palisades

Cars kicked off the list
Pilot- not enough negotiating power
Telluride - very competitive inventory around me
Mazda - too small height wise
Toyota Hylander- meh

Kia doesnt make the palisade. Thats hyundai.

You will have auch harder time getting a big discount on a palisade than other two.

Have you maybe looked at a xc90 ?

This is a purchase and not a lease?

There is a reason that you have more negotiating power on some but not the others :face_with_monocle::zipper_mouth_face:

Uh… yeah… how long are you’ve expecting to keep this vehicle for? Of your 3 finalists, I’d go for the palisade, but I won’t be surprised if you get hammered in F&I.

I’d consider leasing the Pathfinder and Grand Cherokee (good deals on both) and buying the Hyundai Palisade to keep as long as possible (5 year bumper-to-bumper warranty, baby).

Yes you are correct, that was a mistype. The telluride was up for consideration but stock is an issue

Yes, it’s out of our price range. Trying to keep this under 50.

Sorry, it was late. This is a lease. I was thinking when the lease is over and kids are a bit bigger our needs may change a bit. 2 kids under 7

Yeah jeep or Nissan are already u see msrp out the gate. They are the only the even start the discussion with hey fyi “we are under msrp” where as Honda said “we will never go under msrp”. When I heard that I laughed and walked away.

For leasing, you are already looking at this the wrong way. Searching for a lease based on MSRP is useless.

You shouldnt be going in to the dealer and asking them how much they want you to pay.

You should know exactly what the lease cost should be before you ever talk to a dealer… and if you are looking for lease value, youll pay a lot less for a pilot than a palisade.

Im just starting on this journey but from other research ive read, they say go with looking at the out the door price and then you can negotiate from there on payments if you know certain numbers. Again, learning so open to alternative views. Anything that gets my monthly payments down and very little down initially.

I’d suggest taking a look at marketplace deals and reading the lease 101

Out the door price isn’t as applicable on a lease compared to a purchase. Instead, total lease cost is where you want to focus.

Okay thanks ill start there. Thanks for that.

Ill add that to my list. Prob should start with the 101. But im getting to the point where i think i may need to phrase my question differently and start to understand the vehicles that have the highest residual value and then go from there. Reason being is we are REALLY open to other cars so the limits are just AWD/4WD, 3rd row and captains chairs.

You seem to just be starting the process and trying to narrow down a very long list of options. I would highly suggest spending 45 minutes in the marketplace section looking at what brokers offer. That will give you a real good sense of what an average/above average lease on many different cars should look like. If we don’t have a broker offering it, it probably doesn’t lease well (which may not be a deal breaker, I lease one car and financed one car).

Not to nudge the Pilot back on the list, but many dealers are going under sticker. Brokers here offering 3k+

But your best deal is probably the Grand Cherokee. Even though the sticker is higher, you may be able to get a GC 4xe plug in base model to a similar payment if you shop around and target 4-5% sticker for one off the lot BEFORE rebates (which are hefty).

Pathfinder is being offered by multiple brokers/dealers in the LH Marketplace:

Jeep GC/GCL shouldn’t be on your radar until they prove that it’s safe. The last one was a disaster when it was tested, and their failure to improve upon it is a huge red flag.
