Looking to lease a 2021 Subaru Forester Limited (with NAV feature set that has RAB and other features), black on black, 12K miles a year, 36 months, but am getting quoted what seem to be very high prices with multiple dealers quoting 3 - 4K over MSRP. Any advice? Local sales tax rate is 6.35%. Also, since there’s low inventory, dealers are suggesting that I order the vehicle (6 - 12 week back order). One very far out of state dealer is trying to include an “Inventory Hardship” charge of 5%.
Sample Quote from one local dealer. Does anyone have any advice as to how to negotiate in this market? Not many dealers have the car in stock, and those that do are charging premiums (over MSRP). Thank you !
MSRP: 35,123
Price of car: 39,123
0 money down (other than what I apply to the acquisition fee and DMV fees)
There are twice as many Limiteds (437) as Tourings (235) on the ground or in-transit, nationwide.
Are you in Mass. or just a state whose inventory you checked? May change this answer:
I’d cast a much wider net (national with these numbers), target MSRP and buy rate, and if you can wait then order one on those terms. Assuming you can wait 4-6 weeks for a car.
Subaru is a very tough brand to get a deal on or “hack” for that matter.
Even prior to all the car craziness it was very difficult to get under invoice on Subaru.
There is really not a ton of markup on their cars, no rebates ever, and they have a very specific client base that is willing to pay for them.
Only saving grace is that they naturally tend to have decent residuals because they hold their value well. They typically lease through Chase however sometimes you may be able to find a store that works with a local credit union that offers a lease program and crazy residual that may be able to help.
hi, located in CT, near Stamford, Mass isn’t too far. Good to know on the Limited inventory. Have a baby on the way in 2 months so would like the car sooner rather than later (dealerships saying 6 - 12 weeks), but I’ll widen my search to see if I can find anything with the specs I like in a shorter time frame. Thanks for the help here !
