So I found a Jeep I really liked. They sent an email that it had an MSRP of 49k and was on sale for 40k. I inquired about leasing and/or purchasing. The sent me a quote way higher than what they had previously sent me. When I asked about it they said the incentives were different on a lease versus a purchase. Something is amiss. Thoughts? I was so confused I thought of calling the GM.
Call the GM and let us know what they say.
Autonation dealers love to do this.
Jeep dealers generally love showing stacks of rebates that wouldn’t even work together if you did qualify for all of them. I think in some cases it’s more so due to poor web dev from the people who make these sites, but nonetheless, it happens.
It sounds like the incentives are higher on a purchase than on a lease.
All the more reason to work out pricing before you ever talk to a dealer.
Change your title to something with year, make and model and less clickbait @Rigoberto
This could be true, but did they quote you pre-incentive pricing? You can find/calculate incentives yourself.
Autonation dealers are BS, $499 to tint two windows, yeah no, move on. Those payments are atrocious
Not just them.
Can you please explain what click bait is?
A sensational, yet non-descript title that doesn’t actually say what’s going on but sounds dramatic to bait people into clicking.
Of course not! But this is an AN dealership
Ok I changed it to more accurately reflect my befuddled nature.
Yes most likely rebates differ from leasing versus purchase. Some dealers will give bigger discount for purchase as they will make some spread on financing. Always negotiate pre rebate discount and confirm rebates via edmunds or autobytel.
I think you mean selling price in your title (not MSRP). The reason the selling price is different is because the rebates for financing are different than the rebates for leasing, and/or they’re probably not offering dealer discount for leasing.
I always love this. 99% of the time the GM won’t talk with customers.
You seem to be confused on selling prices.
The vehicle has one msrp and one msrp only. They have a different post-incentive selling price because there are different incentives for buying vs leasing.
What is the issue? You asked them why the difference and they told you.
Seriously. The GM probably doesn’t care. Maybe he/she even sets the culture there.
The culture of the manufacturer setting different incentives for leasing vs purchasing and informing customers of this when they ask?
The issue is that they sent me an email with their sales price of the car at 40k. Nowhere does it say that this is based on incentives. Then, when they send me their proposal, the vehicle’s price is way jacked up. To me, this is deceptive “bait and switch” type advertising. I provided them info on what I was looking for, they sent me the vehicle info and selling price, and then changed it. It seems unethical and I am trying to establish what I am missing. There is nothing in there about post incentives selling price. Look at my attachment at what they sent me, and their “dealership” price.
