I am based in Seattle but found the BMW x3M configuration I wanted in Portland, OR. (Graphite Metallic / Black, Competition pkg, Executive pkg)
I have NOT negotiated anything yet from the dealer, this is what they have sent me as a starting point. I would love any feedback on what I can/should negotiate on:
MSRP - $82,345.00
Dealer Price Adjustment (matches national BMW promotion) - $765.00
Sale Price - $81,580.00
At least $7,400 off MSRP (9%), no “Stargard” nonsense, keep the base money factor, and you’ll have a good deal for this month, but X3M’s aren’t nearly as cheap as they used to be. At least the doc fees seem reasonable (not sure if they’re legally capped in your state), but that “Stargard” junk is markup nonsense.
You can remind them that this car has has ConnectedDrive, which can geolocate the car, included, for free, in the lease
Curious about @28firefighter thoughts since I gathered they have experience with this Portland area dealership, as well as @IAC who has been helpful on other BMW threads.
If you get rid of the Stargard and up the discount to 9% you’re at $913/mo sign and drive. I would email the dealer back, thank them for the quote, and tell them if they can get to $915 sign and drive you will be there tomorrow to sign.
Yep I’m down here and I’ve got tons of sold clients in WA for this exact reason. But I will tell you that this inventory crunch we’ve got has pushed pricing up quite a bit, especially on M cars.
After doc and Starguard the discount is basically 0.
This ship has sailed. When someone offers 0 discount, the chances they’ll get to, say, 9% are also basically 0.
Offering 10% off to get to 9 or 8 might have worked if that was the first move (not certain by any means, especially in this market). But that window closed when you allowed them to make the first move and anchor themselves at 0.
So now you’ll have to move on to other dealers and they might not even have the configuration you want.
The “Stargard” would really send me over the edge. It’s insulting and ridiculous.
They want to collect 700 of your hard-earned dollars to buy something that is already standard on the car. How could you ever do business with someone trying to screw you like that?
There’s no reason to think of any add-on that way including MF markups. If you make an offer and they accept it or get acceptably close, it doesn’t matter what line item the finance manager threw in there to get there (and give themselves a commission).
So much this. BMW Portland, IMO, is a solid dealer. The market up here is tight on inventory and they can set the floor wherever they want in light of that. No reason to take it personally. Make your offer, and if they say no, you shop out of area.
Have you tried dealers outside your market? Flying to Bay Area and buying here would save you many times over the incremental cost you’d spend if you are at 5% off.
Not an expert but I’d almost think you could buy an M40i for about half that price, racechip it for $500 and have essentially the same engine.
Might be missing a few of the other M features, but honestly if you’re not tracking this car, I doubt you’ll know.
M40i is B58 engine, X3M is S58 which is variant based on B58. Not too much different, few hundred lower rpm for redline in b58, different turbos, otherwise IMO it’s a lot of marketing to justify a massive price tag for essentially the same architecture engine. B58 can be chipped to hit similar performance as S58.
$1k payments on this just seem egregious but that’s just me.
