2021 Bentley Bentayga V8 - WTF Happened to the Rear End?

And a ghost is a 7 series and the continental a panamera, rs3 is a golf etc etc. Can play this game all day. Same thing on all the watch forums, why get an iwc when a stowa is the same for a quarter of the price.

The Ghost looks like a Rolls Royce, profile and everything. Nobody will say it looks like a 7 series. The Bentayga has the same profile as every other VAG MLB SUV. The interior is top notch and nothing like an Audi, it’s definitely not the same car.

The ghost is based on the 7 series. I’m just saying everyone including you say they’re just badge engineering. Yes to a point but a macan drives a hell of a lot different than a tiguan. Getting back on topic yes I don’t think the squinty lights work well on a tall rear of an SUV.

The upcoming one is actually not.

As they should, since they’re not based on the same platform. The Macan shares its platform (MLB) w/ the Q5, not the Tiguan (MQB).

No, I’m saying you can share a platform and look like a completely different car (Ghost, older version), or you can share a platform and also be badge engineered. GM was the worst offender of badge engineering, while VAG has been one of the best platform sharers, but the Bentayga’s exterior styling doesn’t rise to the standard.

Ok…the macan drives a lot different than an s-q5. Sheesh my whole point is that posters are complaining about badge engineering when it’s a lot different than the mercury ford days. Saying that the new ghost is on a new platform doesnt change the fact that the old one was based on the 7 series. Anyways…

No, but it does perhaps suggest that the Ghost might have made it’s 7-Series origins a little too obvious? Or that it didn’t feel “special” enough?

But, yes, I agree w/ you that few cars that share platforms feel “badge-engineered” like they did in the 80s…

The Macan only shares about 30% commonality with the Q5. It still drives far different and more engaging than the Q5.

Those rear lights are downright ugly!

I have no doubt that the Macan feels very different, but where are you getting the “30%” from?

Vehicle platform and engine are the only carry overs from Audi.

Porsche provides it’s own transmission, drive train, suspension, ECU, vehicle management systems, interior, exterior design, lighting, seats; even the ignition system is different.

Maybe 30% was generous.

I knew about the platform. Didn’t know the engine was from Audi as well.
Honestly I’m not surprised considering just how good Audi/BMW/MB are at engines…

RRs have BMW V12s
Astons and Paganis have MB AMG engines
I knew that Lambo had Audi V10s. Makes sense Porsche uses them too. Although does feel a bit wrong but I guess it is what it is

Interesting findings. I did not know any of this. Looks like the Macan is a V6 so it has the Audi engine. The V8 Cayenne has a Porsche developed engine. It’s interesting that Porsche makes the V8 considering 90% of their lineup is V6. Definitely would have expected this to be the other way around.

  1. For the latest petrol engine lineup within the whole group, the development and production of each are allocated to different brands:
  • Audi takes the 2.0L R4 EA888 and the 3.0L/2.9L V6 EA839;
  • Porsche takes the 4.0L V8 EA825;
  • VW takes the smaller R4 engines.

These engines are shared among all VAG brands:

  • For instance, the 2.9L V6 appears in Cayenne, Panamera, RS4 and RS5.
  • Some say that the 2.9L V6 is derived from the 4.0L V8, but it is actually produced together with its 3.0L sibling in Audi’s Hungary plant and share the same cylinder bore.
  • The 4.0L V8 bi-turbo petrol built in Zuffenhausen by Porsche will be applied to all V8 models including A8, Bentayga, Continental GT, Cayenne, Panamera and Urus.

-The earlier petrol 3.0 TFSI engine from Audi is actually supercharged though marketed as “Turbo”. It was listed as Ward’s 10 Best Engines from 2010 to 2014 and powered former S4, S5 as well as the 2nd-gen Cayenne E-hybrid.
