2020 Mercedes C300..is this estimate a ripoff?

Hacker Fam -

Can you help a Mercedes newb out. A non-dealer mechanic is quoting me the following. I could survive another 6M if I need to but the breaks def need a replacement soon.

Labor Total
Replace Rear Brake Pads, Rotors, and Sensors. $360.00
Part Qty Total
Brake Disc, Premium UV Coated High Carbon 2 $456.48
Disc Brake Pad Set 1 $194.71
Brake Pad Sensor, Electronic 1 $16.60

Subtotal$1,027.79

Est. Tax$68.09
1090 total roughly

Sounds like he’s upselling you on rotors, is this the AMG Model?

Pads are 110 low, so 196 is normal stealership pricing.

Car Edge says a 4yr old C Class is about $690 to maintain

AMG indeed . Still getting ripped? Man so hard to find someone reasonable

There’s a C300 AMG?
If it isn’t an AMG they are upselling you on premium rotors

It’s it’s an AMG, then it’s about right though

AmG trim . It’s 2020 model. Not sure if that was a rare offering or if they always existed but this one is AMG.

Last question for you brother , do you feel this is better than stealership pricing ? I could shop around but I know this community can quickly sus out what’s acceptable vs what’s a rip immediately

an AMG package is not an AMG

Just like a 3 series with the m styling package isn’t an M3.

So did the amg styling package come with different brakes?

I’d say shop around and get a few prices. Wouldn’t hurt to look at a (reputable) Mercedes’ dealership for comparison purposes. It should ease your pain if anything. :joy:

FWIW - AMG parts are not inexpensive, as with most high performance items.

If that’s AMG, it’s pretty good honestly.

If your brakes say ‘Mercedes Benz’ and you can read them through the wheel spokes, you probably have AMG level brakes.

I’ll definitely shop around.

For the record though , amg trim doesn’t mean higher cost rotor etc right ?

Here’s my original specs of the car , so it’s mostly trim and styling. It’s got AMG wheels rofl but not sure that means anything.

AMG Line comes with same c300 i4 engine. However it has perforated brakes and its different from normal base luxury trim brakes. Price seems ok but try to look around more German auto shops. At least 3 to 5. I was able to find the cheapest and highly skilled merc mechanic by having multiple options.
