2020 Kia Niro EV EX Premium lease deal?

Is this a decent deal?

2020 Kia Niro EV EX Premium:

24 month/12k per year
MSRP - $45,900
Selling price - $42,595
MF - 0.00109
Residual - 52%
Total rebate - $14,300
Total drive off - $4800
Monthly payment - $179 + tax

that drive off makes it’s 379/month
Very very very bad

When they were almost given them away I sold my Honda Clarity lease off early (to Shift) and made $5K and thought I would pull trigger on Niro Ev Ex premium. Worked with dealership in SOCAL (actually SD County) to get one. Three days prior to pulling trigger, I decided to go to local Kia dealership to pick color and do a test drive. My first impressions of the Niro was decent looking. But when I sat in front and rear seats, I immediately noticed how uncomfortable they were. Then I noticed some of the fit and finish flaws. So I did not pull trigger. I ended up taking EZ Audi deal instead. Glad it did. I wait until 2023 to get a full EV.

Off topic, but how did you like your Clarity? I currently have a Volt and I like the idea of driving in full EV for 60 miles (i routinely achieve that), but have the option of gas when needed and get 50mpg on long trips. The Clarity is the closest I can get now. What was your impression of it and your real world EV range and MPG? Thanks!

Just a side note, the Clarity is LONG, it’s like twice the length of your volt. (hehe). Hope you have a long garage.

I have a 2021 Outback in the garage as well. lol. It should be long enough.

Yeah there are still so many 2020’s around in my area (socal)… I wonder why these aren’t leasing better. I saw the following advertisement at a dealership will over 40 EV EX Premiums, but when I actually got the lease breakdown it was in the 350+/mo range as well.

That’s the dealer that offered me the deal.

Ya, that’s what that advertisement says.

$159/mo with $3k das plus ttl/fees. Ttl/fees on that is going to be a good 2k+.

That puts you in the neighborhood of $380/mo after tax

Pretty nice but I hated plugging in every night. EV range was 50 miles but coupled with the 7 gallon tank I got over 350 mile range. My daily used to be 52 miles round trip so I balanced EV with hybrid then started just EV as long as I could. Positive was filling tank every 3-4 weeks at 20 bucks or less fill up. My Lexus would take 60 bucks a week so first year of ownership saved tons of gas money. Then Covid hit and put maybe 7k miles on the odometer. Another pluses on car was size, smooth drive and comfort. I called it my Honda Cadillac because of the smooth drive.

Out of curiosity, why? Plugging in is such a trivial thing. I park, plug in, and go inside. It adds maybe 10 seconds of time.

Since I am in SOCAL I plug in my car during low peak hours which means after 9pm+. And would do it every night. Charging last anywhere from 3-8hrs. Or I would go to my local mall (five block away) and get a free charge which took 3 hours. But since everybody in my neighborhood (it seems) drives Teslas all the charging stations were filled. Even when Tesla built a bunch of charges at another close strip mall had to fight for the eight charging stations. When I sold the Clarity I decided on a full EV with longer range so that I would only have to charge (via fast charger) once a week (since I don’t need to drive weekends because I’m leasing two other cars). But the EV I wanted won’t be available until later 2022. I was then going to get Niro EV EX Prem but the seats where hard as a rock. Then checked out the Audi A4 special on the forum and ended up getting Audi A4 quattro Premium Plus with the more HP engine (a bit more but looks much better). Yeah I was surprised too but it seems for $45 more dollars a month (Clarity Touring was $390 a month with zero drive offs and Niro EV EX prem was close to the same price) the Audi’s fit n finish was worth it for me. If the Clarity had a larger battery and bigger gas tank I’d still be driving.

Dealing with time of charge electrical billing without a smart charger would be a pain. In the future, if you find yourself back in ev land, a lot of chargers will allow you to say what hours it will charge at. Then you don’t have to worry about waiting until the evening to plug in.
