With the recent cold temps in the Northeast I’ve started experiencing problems with my driver door. The latch doesn’t seem to be catching when closing the drivers door. If pull the door close I can hit the lock button which will hold it in place, but the door doesn’t catch until the car significantly warms up. Is it worth a service trip or just a weird “quirk or feature”? I am tired of holding my door close to drive for morning coffee/bagel. Lol
I’ve been delaying service trip for my '19 E450 wagon as same thing is happening to the gas filler cap. However, if there is any risk you would fall out of the car might as well bring that in and take a weekend road trip in a loaner. Make sure they give you a good one!
Is this seriously a question?
Why even hold it? Just let it swing around as you drive. What a wonderful quirk. Wait, it’s a feature.
Doug Demuro would be proud
THHHHIIIIISSSSS… is a 2020 BMW 530i. And it is,without a doubt the biggest winter death trap on the market today. In THHHHIIIISSSS video I will show you why!
AND this little button… locks the doors. Which you’ll become very familiar with when driving this car.
But first, don’t forget to check out cars and bids!
Do you remote start the car? Allowing it to warm up a little bit like that might solve the problem. But maybe there’s some kind of lubricant or coating on the latch that the dealer can apply or reapply that is more temperature resistant too.
To be serious for a minute, this sounds like either a lubricant that is getting too thick in the cold or a thermal expansion problem that is misaligning the lock vs the catch when things are cold. If it’s the latter, which is more of what I would expect, a dealer should be able to adjust the door to solve the problem.
Thanks for all the helpful replies and laughs. I guess road trip in a loaner sounds about right!
