Being so close to the end of the “month” and not having time to fly out or arrange transport from some of the trusted brokers on this site, I thought I’d give it a shot at trying to replicate some of their deals locally. I was surprised when I found a dealer that said they’re willing to sell the '19 Trd Pro at “$500” over their cost… one dealer here in the Bay Area told me they “sell” them at $20,000 over sticker and could sell it to me at only 10k over
Anyways, their $500 over their cost somehow turns out to be half way between MSRP and invoice ($47,xxx), so I’m asking if there’s anything I’m missing, or if this is just the usual sales manager asshole trying to lie and sneak in additional costs. The salesperson is actually super nice and eager to help.
The details are as follows: MSRP $49,709, invoice $45,624, I think holdback on this is $732, so their cost is $44,892. I’m willing to pay invoice, meaning $732 over their cost, more than what they asked for. Anything I’m missing in these attachments? Thanks!
I’m in the same boat as you. I’m in Norcal and got ridiculous quotes on Tacomas. I would like to buy one through Cody but flights right now is $200 one way from SFO to OC.
After many, many hours of research I’ve got two leads on TRD Pro’s that look promising. Going in tomorrow morning to hopefully close one of them at what was promised. If it goes through I’ll let you know the exact details, heck maybe it might even help me negotiate if I tell them there might be two customers haha. Are you looking at the TRD Pro or another trim?
So the dealer that told me they’d sell the TRD PRO at invoice, Toyota of Palo Alto, was the first dealer I’ve come across here that was willing to do so. I didn’t contact any dealers out in Sac, but I tried about 25 here in the Bay Area. However, just like expected, they did try to add on BS fees on the back end: some insurance for cars on their lot if they get stolen, they couldn’t explain to me why I was the one who had to pay for their insurance; or a “pulse” third brake light system for like $600 , etc… These went from “mandatory” to something they can remove…
It amazes me that dealerships are still in existence in today’s age, a middleman whose’ sole business model is ripping people off. I truly hope Tesla takes over the entire car market for NO OTHER REASON than the fact that they don’t have dealerships. This is almost as bad as big pharma and the healthcare industry… all due to archaic laws and lobbying.
That, combined with the fact that I didn’t take into account the toyota advertisement fee which is not BS, it’s just there from toyota when looking at invoice price (about $8xx on the Pro I think), meant the TRD PRO was out of my price range here in the Bay Area no matter what deal I was getting.
I was expecting that going in, so I picked out a TRD Off Road they had in Cement in advance and managed to get a somewhat decent deal on that I think. $41k MSRP = $315 / month + tax for 24 months, 12k miles, 0 downpayment just drive off + 9 MSDs…I think Jim in Philly on the forum can give better pricing, but between needing a car right away, transportation costs from Philly, and being completely done with the car purchase process I just said screw it and bought this one.
Would I put Toyota of Palo Alto in the same category as Cody down in SoCal or the dealers on the East Coast? Absolutely not. You’re gonna have to do a lot of work with them, BUT they’re at least willing to play ball.
It still surprises me that they didn’t want to move the TRD Pro, it’s been sitting on their lot since March and 2020’s are almost here, but alas…
