Hey there folks, I am going to buy a Subaru Ascent Touring and originally went in with the intent to just purchase with $10K down. I was curious about a lease so I asked the salesperson to show me some numbers for that too. As I’m learning more about the in and outs of leasing, I suspect this isn’t the best deal, but wanted to have you fine people evaluate before I were to choose my path. This is in Southern California.
Those aftermarkets need to go, or at least get a better discount to account for them, no? Edmunds has the MF at 00045, not 00095 for the Touring at 36/15, so it looks marked up. MSRP is 47,075? That’s what it appears to be based on a 54% residual, which is the 36/15 residual. There’s a lot of people more well versed in Subaru than me, so I don’t know if around 5k off sticker is good or not, especially with 1300 worth of add ons that aren’t residualized. Regardless, I’m pretty sure that you could lease a wide variety of 7 seater SUVs for a lot less, or even premium brands/trims for around the same.
Edit: Maybe the numbers changed a little? I was looking at January numbers by mistake, they didn’t have February yet. I think the greater point still stands.
Thanks for you insight. The price you see is based on “Subaru VIP” pricing which immediately knocks it down to 2% below invoice. Going in, we just planned to own the car for 6-8 years so leasing was never really a thought until now.
Regardless of purchase or lease, maybe try to get in good with a local Subaru Ambassador and try to grab a coupon to put towards the deal. Purchase definitely seems to be the way to go on these, what do rates look like from your bank or credit union?
You’re right, every bit helps. Only slightly better on the rates 3.09-3.25% locally and even most of the online funding is about the same. I may sway back now and see what I can lease an XC90 for. The Ascent is so new, there just aren’t many incentives.
