2019 Jetta GLI Pricing Released

I’m sure it’ll lease terribly, but that is a super competitive pricepoint for what you get. High on the list as a purchase to replace the Stelvio.

Pricing is actually really great. The autobahn comes better equipped than the GTI Autobahn and starts some 3 or 4k dollars lower.

Appears to be more value in the GLI for the same equipment. I would say this could potentially cannibalize GTI sales, but the majority of folks buying GTIs are GTI fans and probably wouldn’t consider the GLI.

I don’t think it will cannibalize GTI sales for two reasons:
(1) GTI gets significant discounts that make up the difference. My guess is those won’t be as substantial on GLI.

(2) It would not surprise me if, somehow, VW normalized the pricing between them in the future.

I think this car is aimed at people like me who need the bit of extra interior space that the Jetta body provides, want a 6spd, but don’t want an anemic 1.4 engine.

I would actually appreciate this GLI… it comes with VW’s version of Virtual Cockpit while the GTI does not (yet).

To me, this represents a better value with more interior volume for passengers.

This went on my list as well. With the warranty coverage this might be the car that pulls me off the lease train.

This and the GTI are on different platforms right?

Not anymore. Starting with this new GLI, they’re both on the MQB platform with the same engine/transmission offerings.

As far as I understand it, MQB doesn’t mean any single platform.

MQb is really a tool kit, so not exactly the same but the building blocks are essentially the same.

One thing to note regarding the price difference between the GLI Autobahn and the GTI Autobahn is that the GTI Autobahn comes standard with:

  • Adaptive Cruise
  • Light Assist
  • Lane Assist
  • Park Assist
  • Park Distance Control

The GLI does not include the above (just blind spot, front assist, and rear traffic alert).

I think many folks wouldn’t even notice those things were gone. Plus virtual cockpit is a neat parlor trick. Still a great value for less than 30k.
