I signed a lease for an Audi S4 P+ 2019 and was offered $1700 (Lease End protection) and $2500 (Lease Term Protection). I declined it.
I take great care of my car. Interior and exterior except the stone chips and normal wear and tear.
Are these protections worth it at all?
Please share your thoughts.
Thanks Jon.
The big one is the $2500 Lease Term protection , which basically has a set of brake pads and rotors replacement for free, one battery change, windshield wipers, belts and such.
Is that worth it?
I guess a independent autoshop can replace rotors/pads on an S4 for less than 1000$
Thank you for the inputs. I feel better for declining those. The finance guy was trying to upsell those two in to the lease but i am glad i caught that and declined. @joeblogs I am not intentionally hard on cars and my lease is 39Month/12k per year.
I believe the replacement parts don’t have to always be OEM. The contract stats it can be of the same quality comparable to the OEM.
For the lease end protection, i did think about the tires. 4 Continental Sport Contact tires will run upto $1100 . The lease end protection doesnt cover any item line that exceeds $1000. So in this case i would anyways would have to pay for the tires.
Please correct me if i am wrong.
you might be wrong on the tires. I got Ally Smart lease on my Giulia and it says each tire is an item on its own. But $1700 seems steep as I got mine for $550 (my lease is only 24 months though)
of course these tires suck so bad I need to replace them anyway because I have 11 months left and I am pretty much worn down to the wear bars
Oh really, even if each tire is an item line, still a bit steep.
Thanks for the info @Azure
$2500 for Brake pads and rotors seemed high to me …
I will hit the dealer service dept to find out the charge on a full brake job on an S4.
Did you negotiate the price of the those options? If those were the first numbers, there was likely a lot of room to move.
As an example, we purchased a new Toyota Sienna about 2 years ago (before I figured out that they might delivery the vehicle for free!). I’m with the finance guy and he asked me how long do I plan on keeping the van…I tell him 10 years. He asks me if I’m interested in protecting my investment, and knowing that I could buy the warranty any time in the first 36 months while the bumper to bumper is still in effect from any Toyota dealership, I say yes.
He tells me the price on a 10 year / 120k warranty is $4,050. I told him that was way too high. He asked me if I’d ever bought a car from the dealership before (I hadn’t) and while he’s asking the question, he starts nodding his head urging me to lie to him and say that I had purchased a vehicle from his dealership before. I smile and play along and answer yes. He literally clicks on the warranty price on his screen, hits the delete key 4 times, and keys the new price of $2,540 or something like that…poof $1,500 off just by saying no to the first offer. After that, obviously I didn’t know where the true bottom was or what was reasonable.
I did some research on Toyota forums and found a dealership that would sell it for a bit under $2,000. In a year, right before the 3 years are up, I will reassess if I really want to buy the extended service plan.
I didn’t negotiate the price actually. Straight up declined it. The finance guy was trying to scare us saying that we will have to pay a lot for maintenance and stuff. I still have a month to add it if i need.
I might try to negotiate the price. But i am sure i am not taking the maintenance plan for $2500
My lease is 12k /year for 39 months. I know i will need to change tires once and do a brake job once during the term of my lease.
The Finance guy accidentally showed the actual cost of those protection plans.
The lease End protection actual cost is $699 but was quoted to us as $1700
The Lease Term protection was $799 but was quoted to us as $2500.
So it looked like it was in his best interest to sell it to us.
