Anyone have an Audi Q5? Crazy story but I rented one from Silvercar and somehow the trunk opened while we were driving and a bag fell out and everything in the bag was run over and destroyed.
Does anyone know if the car gives a warning when the trunk is open?
Thanks
Had an Audi q5 rental from Silvercar. The trunk had some golf clubs and other bags. I hit the button for the trunk to close and got in the car. About a mile down the road I noticed the trunk was open. My brother who was in the car got out in traffic and closed the trunk. An hour or so later we noticed a laptop bag was missing. Long story short, we found it on the road, destroyed, with the laptop, ipad, watches etc completely demolished.
Can’t believe that the q5 does not give a warning that the trunk is open. Not even a beep.
Anyone have recommendations on how to reconcile this? About $5K worth of damage.
Did you contact Silvercar or Audi?
My VW Golf shows when any door is open (incl the trunk) is open in the central display…
Yes - Silvercar had me return the car to them and swap it out. Audi is looking into it.
I did notice that the instrument panel did change the trunk color to red when the trunk was open. But no beep, alarms, lights etc. Nearly impossible for someone who was driving the car for the first time to notice.
File loss claim against your home insurance …
Perhaps even credit card insurance may cover, particularly if rental was paid for by a credit card with insurance benefits …
I just test drove my Highlander with the Trunk open and the goddamn thing beeped all the way.

Tried the chase sapphire reserve insurance - no good because the items damage were not purchased with the chase credit card.
Might have to go the homeowners route.
Thanks for suggestions
You could try to see if there’s an owner’s manual on-line you can access. If there’s an alert function, maybe someone turned it off b/c you took the car…
Idk how much the computer equipment was worth. 1,000 bucks, you might want to consider just sucking it up, as you’ll have a deductible (whatever yours is, avg is between 5-1k), as well as a claim on your homeowners, potentially raising rates at renewal.
If we’re talking more, that might be a different story. Just think about the pros and cons either way.
