2019 Acura TLX A-Spec AWD, new to leasing

Ready to pull the trigger on 2019 3.5 A-Spec AWD. Still trying to figure out leasing in general, not sure what we are looking at numbers wise as we’ve only purchased in the past. Even if we leased, then bought, it’s still ‘cheaper’ than purchasing. Can we do better? What am I missing? Thanks in advance!

You need a larger discount outside of the $8250 incentive. The MF listed includes a non-refundable security deposit. Correct MF without security deposit is .002 for this month. Roll the sales tax into the payment if you like rather than pay it up front as you’re doing.

Search function is your friend----there are better deals on this model out there that you can use to judge where you stand on yours. It’s an outgoing model on an aging platform—you ought to be able to do a bit better.

Well then you’re just wrong. The TLX was last substantially updated for the 2018 model year with the updated MMC design hitting the lots in summer 2017. The 2019 models are on their way out—the factories are only producing 2020’s which will be arriving to dealer lots shortly and if you don’t think the TLX is an aging platform due for another update treatment similar to the RDX got, then you must not have been in one lately. That’s all I’m trying to say—it’s still a pretty nice car if you can get the appropriate deal on one, and using the above points can help bolster the OP’s case.

None of this changes the fact that the answer to the OP’s question about his deal is that it’s not the best he can do as it’s listed.

The TLX will most likely not get the RDX treatment going forward.

Acura just introduced the PMC TLX for 2020 and they’re sticking to using the old Accord platform. There’s still some model years left in this design, but the architecture will most likely remain the same if not, borrowed from other Honda vehicles.

Sedans simply do not pull the same profits that crossovers do which is why the RDX received a complete overhaul and a unique architecture.

Well I respectfully disagree with your opinion. The A-Spec has not even been out for two years so I don’t think its considered an outgoing and aging platform. Maybe the TLX in general sure but thats why they are coming out with the Type S.

Sure as far the technology and interior it could use a refresh but it got a whole new front fascia, fenders, grille, apple car play, and they added the A-Spec trim all of which happened two years ago. Look at a picture of a 2017 TLX vs a 2019 TLX A-Spec. The front fascia drastically made the front end much more aggressive looking.

I thought Ohio collected sales tax on the monthly payment, not up front?

Apologies for my testy sounding response—haven’t had enough coffee this morning. We’re in agreement on what you’re saying here. Would love to see a Type S at some point. I just wish they would do it sooner rather than later—the sales numbers for the TLX are brutal!

They could solve a lot of their issues by putting the updated Honda infotainment setup into the sedans. That would seem to alleviate the biggest area they get dinged on now that they seem to have the transmissions sorted out. It is my understanding that the RDX makeovers will eventually trickle down to the other models, however “eventually” is a vague term so we may be waiting a while—at the very least the 2021 model years.

As far as your deal. They are selling you the car roughly at about invoice (after adding the $8250 incentives to the “lease price” which is a good start…

I think that you can easily get $1,000 - $2,000 below invoice from a store that has inventory on them and is trying to get rid of them but I think you’d have a much easier time if it was a non A-Spec Car.

New TLX for MY2021 on unique platform. Even if it was on the 10g Accord, it would be a massive improvement.

They’re just trying to keep PMC workers employed until they can build something cool there, since no one is buying NSX.

I understand the value of keeping PMC open… I just don’t think the TLX will get its own unique platform like the RDX.

It would be a massive improvement if it jumped to the current generation accord platform and gained the power train as well. It’s honestly what the TLX needs.

It will have a tuned version of the K20C turbo and a unique turbo V6. Sounds like they are finally getting their stuff together, but then again, they were in 2009 too before they cancelled all the cool projects (V10 NSX, V8 RL) and decided to totally cheap out their lineup and just be Honda+…

Thanks for the responses. The explanation I was given for why tax is paid up front, is the dealer lease origin state is Indiana, car to be registered in Ohio (Indianapolis vs Cincinnati). They gave me an outright purchase price of 41,367, it sounds like I should try to get the 8250 incentive taken off that and then calculate lease.

Yes, that would be an excellent starting point, and much more in line with what I’d consider a good deal for the car. Have you picked a color yet?

Looking to lease from Indianapolis for registration in Cincinnati, OH. I was told it couldn’t be rolled in due to the different states.

We are leaning modern steel metallic. It looked pretty mean in the parking lot. 5 year old nephew said it looked like the batmobile…lol
