2018 Mazda CX5 Grand Touring (Premium package) $358.17 & $1900 down

I wanted the hackers opinions on this lease deal that I was given. I am in Phoenix, AZ area. This is for a Red 2018 CX-5 FWD Grand Touring with premium package & roof racks. Per Edmunds, TMV for this in my area is around $30,890 which seems in line with what the dealer priced it at. For the *Desert Package, I was told they can’t take it out since its been installed on the car already, this is something like anti corrosion on paint due to the harsh AZ sun. Rebate is $750 for loyalty & $80 cash lease.

I’m relatively new to this so do take this with a grain of salt:

1- DOC fee seems really high - is this standard?
2 - What are the rebate savings made up of - does this include the Mazda cash of $560?
3- might make sense to get 12,000 miles - residual is just 1% lower at 56%
4. About 6% off MSRP - this is what i kept consistently getting too (i’m in the midwest) - try to reach out to other dealerships, through TrueCar or Costco to see if that % off can be higher. If not negotiate carplay upgrade or additional accessories.

Doc fee of $499 is standard for Phoenix area. No wiggle room on that unfortunately.
Rebate is $750 loyalty & $80 lease cash. Dealer said Mazda bonus cash only applies to purchase, not lease.
I’ve tried TruCar & costco & they are coming up to about the same price or higher :frowning:

To purchase only? Sounds bogus. How many other dealers have you reached out to? I would also recommend running a search on Cargurus for that exact car and sort by lowest price. As long as all else remains equal and you can find a better dealer price for a similar cx-5 then your payments will probably lower.

I looked at Mazda’s site and the lease cash offers seemed to have disappeared. I could’ve sworn they were good until 11/30.

You need a steeper discount, i am not familiar with the Phoenix market but others on this forum have gotten a much steeper discount. The 2019 should be coming out in the near future I believe as well. 2k off is not competitive, I would push for much more.

How much more do you think? Another $2000? I reached out to other dealers & others have only given me $1300 off msrp.

I’ve reached out to 5, only 3 have given lease pricing. Another dealer gave me this lease price on a 2018 CX5 GT Base:
MSRP: $31,325
Sell price: $28,425 after incentives ($750 loyalty & $80 cash lease)
Drive off: $675
MF: 0.00001
Residual: 57%
Residual Buyout: $17,803.95
Total Monthly: $380.61

Drive off fees - I was told this is just standard fees that are left over after rebates - *I’m not exactly sure what that meant.
The monthly is high for a base GT though so I’m assuming the usual fees (aquisition, doc fee, etc) was rolled into the monthly price. I’m waiting for an email back to confirm this.

I reached out to 5 dealers across 3 states including my own. Three of them were willing to negotiate but had a hard limit. One of them offered lease payment eithin within a tenth of the 1% rule. That was the one I went with.

The cx5 is highly regarded car in the compact cuv class getting a number of recognition, accolades, and consistently getting top marks including consumer reports. Dealers know that, however, it also doesn’t sell as well as other cuv,s like the crv and equinox. Dealers are starting to get 19’s in stock now so if you can wait a little and are not attached you might be able to negotiate more on the 18’s, but you would also risk depreciating residuals as the 19’s arrive which could impact numbers.

Check and see what lease offers Mazda came out with on 17s around this time last year. You can also find the dealer willing to negotiate and give them a number a little below your bottom line.

Honestly with the decent residuals and extremely low mf you are getting a relatively decent lease rate on a solid car. You can always do better on dealer price but this is also not a car whose msrp is marked up like others in its class or the luxury badges you see.

I would focus on the 1% rule, a lease payment and DAS 1% of msrp after all fees but before taxes. Good luck.

Thank you for all the tips! I was able to get down to $355/monthly with taxes & increase miles to 12K with $2000 DAS (1st month, doc, acquisiton, title/license fee) I know its not as great as some other deals posted on the forum. But i’m overall happy with the experience & service I received from the dealer. I had a 2016 CX5 Touring & they gave me a trade in value equal to my payoff amount so I didn’t have any negative equity. They were also the only dealership that was transparent with pricing, gave exact lease breakdowns & communicated with me through email. Went in today to sign paperwork & pick up the SUV. Took less than 3 hours (car was getting detailed) Most painless car buying experience I’ve had.

Congrats! It’s a great car. Compared to your 16 you should get less cabin noise and a more refined ride. Mazda has really upped its game lately. No wonder is the third brand after Lexus and Toyota to have best reliability.
