2018 Mazda 3 Touring Lease with Existing Lease Trade In - Good deal?

Hi All,

New here and looking to lease a Mazda 3 Touring 2018 (MSRP - $22,035), as my 2016 lease ends 12/31/2018.

My 2016 Mazda 3 Touring is over miles, roughly 3500 miles and counting with 2 payments of $202 left ($404). Also it is worth noting the tires are low and I believe I will get dinged if I were to turn it over.

Dealership offered to take as trade and liability of 2016 vehicle and roll into sign and drive lease of 2018 Mazda 3 touring. All I am responsible for is 1st payment and the offer is $299 month which includes tax and all fees etc. Terms - 36 Months with 15k Miles per year.

I do not have all of the details of the lease yet but trying to get that from the dealership. I know I don’t have the fine print, but is this in ballpark?

thank you

David

There are essentially no changes between the two cars so why not just buy out your current lease and drive it a bit longer? The proposed lease on the 2018 is beyond atrocious

That is fair question and I appreciated the feedback. Honestly I like leasing new cars and getting into news ones every 3 years with warranty etc.

What would be a good deal? I countered them but they would not budge.

thank you

David

$300/mo for a $22k car just isn’t worth it. Go look at what else is out there, there’s nothing special about this deal. Yes they are eating some of your costs on your current car, but any dealer can roll these into your next lease.

Thanks @joeblogs - What other cars in same category lease well for sign/drive?

thank you,

David

You’re not going to get a good deal on a 3 plain and simple. Look into getting an extended warranty and driving your 3 for another year or 2. When there is an amazing deal, you will be able to pounce. Your buyout is probably around $12k so the payment would be dirt cheap

Thanks @BoardWalkNJ - if I do want a new lease and roll in my existing 16. Do you suggest VW Jetta or any other brands with better leasing deals than Mazda?

Thank you so much,

David

I would say Jetta, not much else is leasing that great in that category.

Thanks @joeblogs - I am going to look tonight at a Jetta SE for 36 months/15K mile per year and trade in my existing car to get out of that. Believe the Jetta’s MSRP around 23K and change.

What type of pricing ballpark should I be looking for from the dealer for a 0 down sign and drive and having them take over my existing lease?

Thank you,

David

I wouldn’t rush. You aren’t escaping the cost of tires and the last two payments. They are going to be rolled into lease. December is a good time to lease. Just hold off.

Mazda 3 residuals are bad, much better on Mazda 6’s. I can’t see in what world $300/month for a 22k car is a good deal lol. Heck you could basically buy it for that amount.

Are tires and miles all you are worried about? Ask them how much it would be if you take your trade off the table.

How much are miles? 20 cents? That’s $700. I just checked a local tire chain and you can get 4 new tires installed for $356. Plus your $404 in payments, that’s a total of $1460. What is the disposal fee? $350? $1800 in cost now vs increasing your payment $97 x 36 = $3492.

Thank you all for the feedback and help.

If I do want to try and trade in and get a Mazda 3 Touring - what would be a good deal?

Also, I know it is difficult to say exactly but what would be a good deal for a lease in same car category with trading my car? For instance a Jetta SE?

Thank you,

David

You really aren’t listening to anything people are saying here. It’s almost like you don’t like what we are saying so you continue to ask it again with the hopes of getting the answer you want to hear. Get quotes from Carvana, Vroom, etc to see how much negative equity you have. Leases aren’t fantastic this month so it makes sense to wait until December IMHO

I have read and listened to everyone. I was just looking to see what better price would be, since everyone bashed $300 price as a bad offer. Nobody provided what a fair deal would be in this situation. Maybe there aren’t any good deals right now due to current offerings?

I understand that it sounds like waiting until December is the smart move, but I’m concerned my tires are nearing the end plus every week I’m adding 300 miles.

I might try and see if I can drive less and last until December, but prefer not to purchase new tires in order to make it that far.

Thank you,

David

Nobody knows what a fair deal is considering the fact you provided nearly no details. MSRP, selling price, residual, MF, incentives, what they are paying for your car vs buyout, tax rate, etc. We aren’t mind readers so all we can say is that the price you are quoted is too high.

Alright, I’ll give it a shot. Through Honcker, I could get mazda3 Touring for about $255 with $255 at singing for 36/15. Your offer is $44 more, or what is about $1500 tacked on for what is left in your current lease.

Again, have you tried vroom and carvana for quotes?

Other good deals? I’m not sure as I haven’t studied the category, but I see Elantra SEs for about $200 and SELs for $220-$225. Same 36/15 and only first month at signing.

Just buy the tires, you’ll get dinged on the value if they are bald anyway. Plus it’s stupid to drive with bald tires

@mm2018 Are you still looking for a car? Let me know, I am in Arizona, at a Mazda dealer. I can see if I can help at all

How can you compare your payments and his without knowing the respective tax rates?
