Stinger isn’t even a muscle car. It ticks all the boxes, except the lease value.
Yeah, they’ve been doing a lot of little exhibitions here in LA for the Stinger so I’ve taken a pretty good look at it. I wanted to like it, but I just haven’t been impressed. I appreciate that they’re trying to shake up the market for entry level performance vehicles, but like @MConte05 said above, I have a feeling people are going to forget about this thing in a few years. I certainly would wait at least til summer before entertaining a lease on it.
Jon1, where did you pick up that deal? Im going back and forth between the RS400 and the Stinger.
Your price would finalize me on the RS400.
Did the “stinger” experience around a closed course in DC. 0-60 and a tight autocross course plus a full walk through of the interior and exterior. I was impressed at this price point and generally impressed overall. If they can keep the reliability strong it will be successful. A couple of thoughts.
- This chassis is a clean slate not used with any other models
- I think it looks very good overall. Only things I don’t like are the fake hood vents and how the rear reflector wraps around the rear quarter panels. First time I saw the car I thought Audi A7. Well makes sense as Peter Schreyer is now their head of design (vw/audi guy)
- The press ripped on Kia/Hyundai in the handling department (still). So they go and hire the head of BMW’S M division to focus on chassis tuning and handling. This car is no straight line muscle car, its a pretty complete package
- The Koreans are learning that buying German help gets them credibility, then they build up their internal capability over the next few years. I will say this again. The Koreans are super motivated and are moving past taking on the Japanese and going right for the Germans.
- The real negative is the brand image and Kia is investing alot of change perceptions. I think this car will go along way to doing so. I was very skeptical at first but the drive was impressive…
Reviews seem great and the value on MSRP basis may be clear, but unless it’s substantially cheaper in real life than a Q50 RS or BMW 340 it has no future. I want more power in my next car than my current ride (328i) but can’t see myself considering the Kia GT for more than $350 all in.
Could not agree more. I would rock a stinger GT but it would have to be $350 or less…
$350 for a Stinger is a good deal. Anyone have any luck?
The simple answer is that it should have been launched as a Genesis product from the get go.
So is $50 for a Stinger, just wishful thinking at this point.
I agree however $350 on the lower trim level (GT1) may be achievable in the near future.
Agreed - but that isn’t going to change much other than the dealer experience. The Genesis is not going be cheaper, is highly unlikely to have $7000 in lease incentives and has no logical reason to have anything other than a modestly better residual. I suspect the equivalent G70 will be a much more expensive lease than the Stinger when it launches.
Of course, I was talking more about it having some kind of importance vs being “Just a KIA”. I saw a GT in person the other day and it really didn’t stand out at all. The fact that it was black on black didn’t help matters, but it seemed pretty run of the mill up close.
I’m seeing pricing under $600/mo now for $52K MSRP cars, Residuals and MF still the same, but dealers are discounting on top of the $7K lease cash.
So I talked to the dealer I have been working with, the only kia dealer thats easy to work with, and they let me know that the GT2 AWD numbers have changed.
The rebate has gone from 6700 to 7000, the residual has gone from 50% to 53%, and he said the money factor is a small fraction better (didn’t give it to me but I didn’t ask). Based on my last negotiation with him at the end of last month he was able to 1.5k under invoice. The numbers seem to be slowly getting better.
Wow 7k rebate on a brand new car?
Is Kia trying to be Chevy by discounting their cars right off the factory line?
They know they’ll need it. Learnings from the old Genesis, before the rebrand.
It’s even $7,300 in some states. Residual is indeed 53%. Money Factor I’ve seen for GT2 AWD in most states is .0021 (ouch)
Kia has done it since the beginning, or at least since they “reinvented” themselves in 2011. However, back then money factor wasn’t this crazy, so leases were much better.
What was the selling price for the deal to get there haven’t gotten better than 565 a month 1065 at signing
36 month 12k miles a year
