2018 BMW i3 Lease

I’ve been working with a BMW Dealership for the past week or so on a 2018 BMW i3 BEV lease. It’s been a bit of a slow process, mainly because we’ve been working through e-mail and the holiday.

I did receive a quote last night and I’m looking for opinions on if it’s a decent deal / if I should keep prodding for a better deal. I’m in Western Pennsylvania and the i3 stock around here is quite low, so I don’t know how much negotiation power I have if the car has to be ordered for me. 2017s are non existent here, so I ended up going for the 2018.

The quote I have right now is:

MSRP/Retail: $47,945
Selling: $46,000
Rebate: $8000*
Government Fee: $56.15
Proc/Doc Fee: $215
Term: 36 months
Miles: 10k

The dealer gave me a few options for the monthly payment pending on what I want to do for a down payment.

$0 down >> $515/mo
$2500 down >> $440/mo
$5000 down >> $360/mo

The dealer notes: “Keep in mind this is final numbers including all applicable taxes.

*The rebate includes the $7,500 and the Corp Fleet discount. I don’t apply for military, previous BMW owner, or recent grad.

I’m new to leasing, but I’m thinking my first step should be to get that Selling Price down a little more. I don’t really care how much I put down, because at that point it’s all the same money. That’s all the information given to me so far, I don’t have a MF or anything like that at the moment.

I would like to stop by the dealership in person to try and speed this process up, so I’m hoping to get some more information before I walk in there and get fleeced. Any help is appreciated and I can provide more information if anyone needs it.

That’s a terrible deal. Look up @HN308’s deals on the i3. You won’t get it as cheap as NJ has EV incentives, but it’s still a lot cheaper than what you were quoted.

if you were to total the car you lose your down payment, I would try and put as little down as possible. Also that isn’t a good deal at all

not a good deal. The quote I was given for 2018 i3 with MSRP 48k by a deal in CA was 4950 drive off , 214 per month, 10k/36mo . 214 includes tax. You can also add 2k loyalty, 2.5k CA state rebase + several hundreds $ from your power company on top of this.

Agree with others here that is not a good price at all. The number don’t add up either. I’m getting a pretax payment with a sign and drive of $445/mo. Unless you have a 15% tax rate you wouldn’t be at $515/mo. The offer on BMW’s website is much better as well and typically you can do better than the nationally advertised deals. It’s $319/mo with $4244 due at signing.

Sadly I don’t qualify for most of those – I’m in PA, have no loyalty and my power company doesn’t care about me haha.

Ok, good I’m not crazy. The tax rate should be 7% here in PA. Also, I did send the dealer the link to the BMW website deal and he did note that was pre-tax w/ that $4k due, but I should still be closer to that than his $5k down offer, which as noted by @Azure I definitely don’t want to put down that much.

Depending on where you are in PA, tax on leases is +3% from your base tax rate. So, if the general sales tax rate is 6%, on a lease it would be 9%. If you’re in Philadelphia or Allegheny Counties, it would be 7% base rate + 3% for leases, or 10%.

I didn’t know about the extra 3%, that does pertain to me in Allegheny County.

I would say you need to look outside of Pittsburgh. Consider looking in Cleveland, Columbus, and Philadelphia areas and see what is being offered.

I’ve heard from several folks that the Pittsburgh area BMW dealers just aren’t that competitive anymore.

I’ll poke around a little more. I was looking at a few in Ohio, but no one had any new inventory on hand. I guess I’ll just send a message out to them to see what they can do. Good tip, thanks!

I would also say, if you’re willing to go to eastern PA, you may be able to work with one of our brokers here who can probably do considerably better.

10% off of MSRP on 2018 Rex is reasonably do-able. Anything more is extra gravy… That should land you close to 300-350 per month with very little upfront on 24 month 10K lease (with loyalty and federal credit).

I’ve fallen in love with the car, so I’m definitely willing to expand my range a bit to find a solid deal. I don’t know anything about brokers yet though, haven’t gotten that far in my research. Any tips?

Checkout our registered dealers/brokers thread. We have several folks who work in the mid-atlantic region.

Talk to bmw if oyster bay

I’ll shoot them a message! I had read your thread last night, congrats on the car / deal. Was Oyster your backup that you mentioned?

I had talked to them as well and they had 2017’s i am not’ anywhere close to NY, so check with them. They have one pay lease deals

I leased 3 i3s from them, and then they went radio silent when I tried getting another friend one. I kinda understand haha

You need a better sells price.
10-12% AT least.

Keep in mind the more rebates you qualify for the better the deal.
Look into OL code ($1000 rebate), Costco ($500).

If you do not qualify for additional rebates you just need to grind the sell price.

Also, what MF are they using?
