Seems like you took it out of context. No one said they are the safest currently (though they well may be). But they did have (and still do) this reputation way back due to their research on safety and implementation of safety features. The modern 3 point seat belt was first developed for Volvo in the late 50s, and it’s been standard equipment since then.
I understand what Volvo is now and have been very impressed with their cars the past five or so years, but my mother remembers Volvo as the cheaper station wagon with wood paneling that she bought back in the 80s.
Wasn’t wood paneling a definition of luxury back then?
But seriously, I think since 90s they became more refined, more so than “luxury” Toyota.
That’s fair. “Luxury” really is a function of marketing. It always felt like Volvo really cornered the whole ‘safe, built to last, good investment’ type approach, not really the luxury aspirational type stuff.
Yea, not until 90s/60 redesign that is
Ugly as hell, but you can’t blame them for the lack of personality
You know, looking at the XC60 sale numbers so far, wonder if it’s not going to be the runaway sales hit they were hoping for like the XC90 was at first.
Seems their numbers leveled out real fast after the first month or two of release, now getting close to the prior model year sale numbers already.
Kind of like the Stelvio, there are SO many good options for SO many SUV’s that buyers just go with what’s familiar or upsize themselves that they forget that SUV’s like the Stelvio and the XC60 exist.
Hell, the OP didn’t even realize there was a new XC60, probably cause it looks exactly like an XC90, lol.
My snow blower could keep up with it on the highway.
They haven’t thrown any incentives at XC60 yet, so their numbers can still get pretty impressive.
I’m stuck on the fact that there was a time when Subaru’s headquarters was on the main line outside of Philadelphia. #TMYK
They started with selling scooters in the US first.
Say what you want about Volvo but my mom’s neighbor has had the same one since 1987(maybe longer) that is when we moved in. Both their kids drove it and he still has and drives it more than his Honda that he keeps in the garage.
The dealers in the Bay Area are treating the xc60 like they are Ford raptors, but then most dealers here are pretty arrogant except the Korean and gm dealers. I drove the car it is nice but I am sure price will start coming down like every volvo
