Got myself in a sticky situation. While playing with my dogs on the beach, I lost my 2017 Mercedes C300 car keys. Just moved two months ago and can’t locate my spare (although there is a small chance its in the glove compartment). Anyone has any prior experience with getting a replacement? Tried activating mbrace Connect through Connect Me app, so I could do remote unlock to check the glove compartment, but have to have access to the inside of the car. Called my Mercedes dealership, but they’re asking for me to tow the car to the dealership in order for them to set up a new set of keys. Called up a few locksmiths, but the ones I talked to, they can’t do it. Really don’t want to shell out $$$ for towing on top of a replacement key. Anyone knows a better solution?
You should be able to unlock the car from the Mercedes Me app. I would unlock my 2017 GLC 300 with the app without my key to get things from car all the time. Don’t have to be inside the car to unlock either.
It’s Catch-22, I never signed up for the app until today, and the only way to sync the app with the car is to press the “i” button in the car. Cant activate the app without accessing the car.
Many new cars come with roadside assistance during the warranty period. Towing might be covered there.
Do you have any of these credit cards that either pay for or subsidize certain roadside assistance services?
It’s also an option on many auto insurance policies, and is obviously sold by places like AAA (perhaps you’ve purchased this for another vehicle, but coverage often extends to all of your vehicles).
If you’re bummed about the potential tow charge, wait till you get the bill for the fob and programming. Towing will be the least of your concerns then. Might want to have the tow truck driver stop off at the drug store for a box of tissues first, cause you’re going to need them.
I recommend you to contact the company and ask for new keys. Hopefully, they will provide new keys.
