2017 BMW i8 Lease Proposed (Corporate with 1500 miles)

The dealer has a 2017 corporate car coming in with 1500 miles. I am new to this, and not sure if the car will fit our family needs, but it is a good enough deal that we are considering it. My guess is there are a lot of bloated fees in this deal, but the discount is huge.

**MSD: **
Incentives: $2,650 e-drive lease credit

Did you ask them for the MF? That should be the first step, get all the numbers of the deal.
Then you will be able to expose the fees they are padding the deal with

Is the i8 worth that kind of money? Car has some good tech and cool carbon structure but for that kind of $ performance is not there. If you just want to look cool it will do the trick tho. It is a head turner. Overall it was a big flop as a project for bmw.

I am pretty sure the i8 does not fit anybody’s family need, unless it is a family of one …

It’s a good deal but at this payment, I would rather get the following
a) Acura NSX
b) Land Rover
c) Boxer/Cayman GTS
d) Quadrifoglio
e) M3
f) CL43
g) F-type
h) Tesla Model S

This is the thing holding me back. We are coming to the end of our 2 year lease on a Tesla Model S P90DL. For the same payment I am leaning toward going back to Tesla. If not a Tesla nothing else seems to really be worth me spending that type of money.

Believe it or not the kids do fit in the back and aren’t too tight.

MF is .00196
Residual is showing at 63.7%.

For $1,400/mo, the list is endless

We use our i8s with kids too – the back row is perfect for kids that otherwise would be in boosters. It’s not the car for BJ/Costco runs, but it works for normal grocery runs. With that said, the Tesla is a better buy, but the i8 is the sexier pick. Do what you like, not what you’re told.

Our dealership has written a number of i8 demo leases (vehicles with less than 5K miles) over the past couple of years and they were usually $1,199 month (36 mos, 10K miles yr) with no money down and $1,500 due at signing (Bank, doc and registration). I’m not saying this is the norm but wanted to let you know for comparison. I also see them come across Swapalease at or around $1,199 as well with no down payment.

imo nsx > i8 > model s > cayman gts

@Orbe is correct. Those amazing deals were when the residual values were higher, to wit: 36/10k was 63% and even as high as 65% at one point, and now, 24/10k is just 64%. Also, as noted elsewhere on this forum, the MF has gone up and there are no MSDs left. The option of picking up a car off swapalease is tempting as well.

Thanks @Electrifi38! One of my suggestions would be to monitor Swapalease for one these high residual leases that do pop up from time to time.

I like this idea. We still have a few months left on our Tesla, and it is hard to justify making double payments.

Right and you’ll only have to pay BMW $600 for the assumption. Some states require you to pay the sales tax again on the transfer so check on that in advance.

I would avoid lease assumption on the i8s though because almost nothing is covered and you’d be responsible for every little thing that happens with the car once you assume it.

@Alex, that is inaccurate. I think you are confusing maintenance with warranty. The warranty remains but maintenance can be continued if you pay a fee to continue converage. The best way to avoid maintenance issues is to have the transferor perform maintenance just before the transfer.

Just wondering, with the depreciation on these things would financing a CPO maybe be the better option?

You can certainly get a better performing vehicle for that kind of money or less. The upside is definitely the styling and cool factor. After incentives, the leases aren’t that much more than an M3 and they perform similarly, with the M3 beating it out by a small margin, but the i8 is much more of a head turner if that’s important to you.
