I am looking to get into a different vehicle and am looking to gauge the interrest in my current vehicle, a 2016 VW GLI SEL Manual BLACK on Black.
The current payment is $310 a month including a 3 year maintenance package. All taxes etc were rolled in and as far as I know the only fee would be the ($895) transfer fee
There is still 33 months on the lease and and 34k miles left.
$895 seriously?? Wow VW. Second, you know you will not be taken off the lease, only a new person added? That means you are still financially responsible for the car.
VW financial does not take the original lessee off the contract, only adds someone. I ran into this 2 years ago when i tried to swap my passat. Ended up selling it, cost me about a grand but worth it to avoid the potential liability.
That’s interesting. I was thinking of swapping mine Jetta. But I got an additional end of lease coverage for upto $10k (which is essentially is a residual of the car).
I guess I need to research more on that topic.
Well that gives you some assurance on the car itself, but the real problem is if the assume injures someone and you are still on it. You can bet any ambulance chaser worth a $hit is coming after you as well.
Yes I came across this when calling VW financial this morning. They won’t take you off the lease…which kinda is a no no when you want to transfer a lease over to someone else.
Its not worth the risk to be a strangers safety net…
Its shocking how many people have no idea when they swap they are still on the lease and the potential liability it opens them up to. I have found that most manufactures do not take the original lessee off the lease if transferred.
I really don’t remember it’s been a few years, just remember being surprised at how many it was. I know Bmw takes you off and Audi/vw definitely does not, I think Nissan does not as well. Google search would probably get you most of your answers. But if you are the one taking over the lease I don’t see a lot of problems with it. Only potential one I could come up with is at turn in time they may have a claim to buy the car at the residual.
