2016 Ford Focus Electric Lease Numbers Question

Hi!

I am wondering if the experts here can say if this is a good deal, and if not, what numbers I should shoot for. I missed the 2015 deal by a couple of days.

2016 Ford Focus Electric with Leather

MSRP: $31,040
Invoice: $29, 507 (according to the dealer. I see 2 numbers on the web.)
Costco Price: $29, 057

Monthly (35 Payments): $278 (with $0 Down). First offer was $325, and dropped it to $278

Term: 36 Months
Mileage: 10,500
Residual: 40%
MF: Don’t have this info.
Doc Fee: $80
CA (91344) Rebate: $9,750

Thanks,

GHTech

Looks like the APR in this case is 0.5% (.00021 MF), so there’s no markup. The numbers make sense, and I don’t see any red flags.

After the $2,500 CVRP rebate, the effective monthly cost is about $200/month including tax. I’d say that’s so-so.

Personally, I don’t think Focus Electric is worth $200/month, since the 2017 model will see an increase in range, and the current car has been largely unchanged since 2012. I’ve got a 2014 myself, and it definitely feels a bit crude compared to the latest EVs out there like Volt, i3, or e-Golf.

Was this Santa Monica Ford? They are generally very upfront and good with pricing.

Hi Michael!

Thank you for the response. According the what I found out after I posted, the MF for April is 3% (0.00125), and the Residual is 40%. When I put the numbers into the Lease Calculator, it seems to come out right.
Most of our driving is in the 1 - 5 mile range, and the range on this fits fine. We do also have a Honda Odyssey, so that will take care of the longer distances. My logic was that if the gas saved by this EV, will pay for the lease payments, I am interested. At $200 (after CVRP) plus $66 in insurance, does not make sense even with the gas prices in So. Cal.
So, my response to the dealers has been that when the MF is 0.00001 (0.25%) and Residual is 43%, which were the numbers in Jan/Feb, I will be back. This offer was from Sunrise Ford. Santa Monica Ford gave a number that was $289/$284, but I don’t remember if it was for the leather one, and if it was $0 down. Yes, I like the fact that their first offer was fairly low. I am going to wait to see what deals come my way in the future.

Hi Michael or other Experts!

The MF was 0.0001 and Residual was 43% in Jan/Feb on the 2016 Ford Focus Electric. It is at the moment 0.00125 and 40% for April. Is there a possibility that the numbers could go back to the lower numbers in Jan/Feb? The reason I am asking is the Sales person “said” that the residual value never goes up. I just wanted to ask the experts.

Thanks,

GHTech

Ford residuals are released quarterly. However, incentives are updated monthly.

I suspect 2016 Focus Electric will be cheaper to lease in a few months, especially once the longer-range 2017 model comes out.

Hi Michael!

Thank you for the info. How often are the MF changed?

Thanks,

GHTech

Not sure. By the way, the rates for April on 2016 Focus Electric is 0.5% APR (.00020 MF). Perhaps the dealer is marking it up to .00125 MF.

Hi Michael!

On Edmunds, they said it was 0.00125. I seem to be getting close to the numbers (using the Lease calculators) that the dealers offered using the 0.00125.

Please advice.

Thanks,

GHTech

On that Edmunds thread, the source writes,

I don’t have the California region, this month. Normally, the next closest one will do, but since this is an EV, they numbers might be different. Anyway, this is the next closest region.

3.00% APR and 40% residual. $7500 lease cash.

For California, the numbers are 0.5% APR, 40% residual, and $9,750 lease cash.

It’s consistent with what you’ll find on the Ford.com configurator. Bear in mind, the Ford calculator assumes the $645 acquisition fee paid upfront.

Hi Michael!

I had put my lease info on 2 threads, and it was the other one that gave a firm answer of 3% MF (by Michaell). So, if it is 0.5%, then that makes a lot of sense with you clarifying the use of the calculators. I was putting the $9,750 as untaxed. This was driving me crazy. Thank you for working the calculators. It is much appreciated.

If you had to hazard a guess, what sort of incentives do you think that they might offer in the next few months? I am assuming that the offer of $3,000 for the 2015 from the recent deal might not come till late this year or early next, right?

Thanks

Hi!

Restarted the hunt on the 28th of April. The offers went from $278 to $260 to $255 to $250 to $245. This was with $0 drive-off and includes taxes. Was planning to buy over the weekend. I had mentioned that I was looking for a “killer deal”. One of the dealerships asked what would make it a “killer deal”. I said $225, and they said if they meet it, will I take it that night. I said yes, and within about 30 minutes, they said come and get it. I could have gone to Galpin (closest dealer) and they would have beat it or matched it. But, did not feel like doing that as Valencia came through with the number I asked. They did not pull any stunts. The dealer was AutoNation Ford Valencia, and the salesman was George. The numbers are below.

MSRP: $31,040
Invoice: $29,522
Car Price: $27,117
Rebate (CA 91344): $9,750
Registration: $258
Documentation: $80
Mileage: 10,500
Term: 36 months

35 payments of $225, with $0 drive-off.

Thoughts?

Thanks,

GHTech
