Hey Hackrs,
First time leaser who has to return in about 6 months. Lease was 15k a year and I’m looking like we will hit 42k out of the 45k. In addition, the car has some damage including a right front panel dent and a key scratched door. The windshield also has a thumbtack sized crack from road debris.
I’m trying to figure out the best options for minimizing loss on the return itself or if there are other tips for what to do. I assume small issues would be covered by dealer but in this case I think I’m looking at some level of repair work on me. Happy to send more specific details of the car if helpful.
Thanks!

Wanted to add that the lease is with Chase directly from Mazda dealership as I see in some posts prior it might make a difference who lender was.
Mazda doesn’t have a captive so they use Chase, unless your dealer writes a deal up with another CU or something like that.
That said, I had ZERO issues returning our Mazda 6 with some damage. Chase gives you $1000 damage waiver automatically. Make sure you get the free inspection a month before hand so you know exactly what to expect. We had door dings on both sides of the car, scratched mirrors, as well as a nice 6 inch scratch on the bumper that took paint completely off. The scratch was estimated at $250, the door dings and scratched mirrors were not counted.
Just wait until the pre-inspection and see how close you get to $1000.

Thanks @aigochamaloh that is super helpful! Any thoughts on coming up short on mileage? Did Mazda offer any discount for taking a new lease?
I’m not sure on their policy like that. I know BMW and MINI have credits for unused mileage, but it’s very minimal. We were quite a bit under on ours as well, so we ended up taking an extra road trip and switched cars so I drove with my longer commute to return the car with the exact mileage we paid for.
