I’m in Kentucky.
this is an almost brand new 2004 corvette. Someone who is nostalgic for that kind of car will pay top dollars for that because there’s only a handful around with that few miles, they dont make it anymore, and that person can best be found on BAT and C&B. The milage is the key here, if that car had $30k miles, sure go sell it anywhere but a car with that low miles can command top dollars in this crazy market. I wouldn’t sell it to just some private party or carmax.
PS: Selling on C&B and BAT is time consuming. You need to take alot of high quality pictures and maybe even videos and people who bid on those cars ask a lot of detailed questions. So that’s the negative side of those websites.
4,600 mile 6-speed Z06 coupe didn’t get bid more than $28,500 on BAT today.
Low mileage vettes are not exactly rare.
My neighbor actually has an '03. I remember seeing him drive it every summer since I was just a toddler. Red, with a black soft top. They’re getting older (were retired when they got the car and moved in), but they still try to drive it every once in a while.
Lots of older folks buy em and baby em - and is it just me or are some Vette owners notorious for the 'Only in this color built on a Wed. by a Capricorn" sort of I know what I have stereotype.
A base automatic C5 isn’t exactly that special of a car, but does command a nostalgia factor from many Americans. Most likely the right buyer for this car is an older driver with disposable income who has always had a soft spot for these. It’ll be pretty niche.
I don’t think you’ll get a younger car enthusiast to part with anywhere near 30k for this because there are honestly better drivers cars that are more contemporary and come with manual for the same money.
Your MIL should split the difference on the offer for 25k and probably take 26.5k for it and call it good.
However, putting it up on auction may give people a chance to show what they think it’s worth. It’s a lot of effort, but may be fruitful.
01 has the less desirable 5.7 vs 6.0
Car is worth more than 28.5 for sure
OP’s in-laws’ car has a 5.7
And it’s auto and convertible
Meeting in the middle sounds fair
if a Z06 can only bring $28k $25k for a base auto is more than fair. Like all Chevys of this era, the car will fall apart around the engine
I don’t disagree with you. The Z06 was a coupe, where this is a convertible. Does that increase the value enough to justify a higher price tag?
Note
I told her to try to meet him in the middle. If he’s firm on $25k and she won’t budge then she can keep driving it 1,000 miles per year.
Generally, being a convertible hurts sport car values and automatic even more so. A manual coupe Z06 would be considered to be the most valuable of these.
I agree with this
Update: she and the local buyer agreed on $27,000.
She was happy with the outcome and has a lot more garage space. Now she is trying to decide if she wants a new RX or not.
Congratulations on the sale. Closing thread, hope the community info helped.
