I was rear ended last night on a freeway. The car in front of me came to an immediate stop and I managed to stop without rear ending that car but the car behind me couldn’t stop in time.
My body shop guy tells me that can fix it but I don’t think I’d feel safe being in this car after repairs.
I got this car 2 months back on 36 month lease for $0 down.
Any ideas on damage itself and tips on dealing with insurance? Thanks!
Update 10/30: Insurance adjuster said there is damage to the frame and would require some cutting and fixing. The cost estimate comes to around 31k but he feels there might be more as the repairs get started and has recommended to do a total loss.
Doesn’t really matter what you feel. If insurance decides to fix it, you’re stuck with it. If you want to get out after that, it’d be a hefty payment required on your end based on EVs holding terrible value, dirty Carfax and the MY26 with a drastic price drop.
Sorry my image didn’t upload for the first time. I added the image of the damage. I have no idea about the details but I uploaded the image to Google gemini and it seemed to state that there seems to structural damage. I am not an expert so would highly value opinions from the community. Thanks!
Lol we went from some guy having AI “analyze” his deal in a different post to this guy having AI “analyze” body structure damage based on a pic of outside body panels….. God help us all…
Wait for the insurance adjuster to tell you what the deal is and go from there. If it’s totaled, it’s totaled. If not, get it repaired to your satisfaction and happily drive another 2.75 yrs. Then return it to the lessor. That’s the beauty of leasing.
Not “feeling safe” in it is a human reaction and very normal post-accident. If it’s repaired to spec, it’s fine.
Hope you’re ok first and foremost. Is the damage to the front passenger door from this collision? It appears to have crumbled. If yes, you’re most likely shopping for a new car as it would indicate serious frame damage.
Hopefully his own insurance looks at it first to give him a true assessment vs the other driver’s insurance. Body shop needs to be willing to lose his business too if the car is in fact totaled. Most shops will play games with insurance just NOT to lose a big job like this. Need to find a shop he trusts to offer their honest opinion.
Impossible to assess the damage from pictures. If the frame is undamaged, i would say it will be a repair and it will be ok to drive in the remaining term.
If you got rear-ended so bad that the frame crumpled leading to your front doors being bent and windows shattered then I’d do everything in my power to find a body shop that will estimate the repairs thoroughly enough to justify totaling it instead of repairing it.
That tells me there is not likely much frame damage. I have heard of Porsche Macans being totaled because the rear hatch would not close after being rear-eneded. It would cost too much to straighten out. Good luck and I hope you reach an amicable agreement.
Thanks my family and I are okay! The damage is from the same collision. The same car hit first in the rear and then on the side. I am not sure how it happened but there were two bangs.
