Would people be interested in taking advantage of a dealer license?

Buy here pay here dealers are behind their cars? Haha

Mu neighbor owns a bunch of them and owns a 20 mill waterfront house here in Miami. Basically they just repo cars and resell them over and over again. Charge 20-30% interest they never pay off the car and usually default.

Seems like a good business if you’re the predatory type

I’d def be a customer (same location).

Can’t tell you how many times I found a (seemingly) great deal at Copart only to find it was dealer-only.

They have brokers you can use for Copart purchases if you don’t have a license.

I had no idea (but never really looked into it).

You also might be better off finding a local dealer doing what the OP is looking to do. There’s smaller dealers and BHPH lots that definitely get cars from Copart/IAA to fix up and sell. Local Craigslist may have posts offering auction services access too.

As much as a Facebook Marketplace hoarder I am, I never really felt confident enough on dealing with Craigslist… at least in my area it looks shady AF…

Most of the “dealer offers” you find on CL or FBM are not legitimate offers for your own dealer’s license. Rather, some legitimate dealers sell the ability to share their access. They can create an auction login for you, under their account, and give you an extra dealer plate, which DMV has actually assigned to them. You are essentially considered an employee of the dealership, not a holder of the dealer license. It’s sketchy (especially insurance).

This is true but there are some dealers who will find you a car at auction for a fee (e.g. $500 markup on whatever ultimate cost is at auction). Those guys are not selling/sharing plates and employee IDs.

…and you will never know the actual auction “ultimate” cost

It’s not hard to figure out especially on Copart where AndreG is looking as anyone can watch the auctions (but not bid if not licensed) and their fees are listed. Even Mannheim auction fees can be found online for those who are not dealers. Besides one can compare to used cars listed at retail to see if someone is padding the prices.

Most wouldn’t know how to and used car prices vary greatly, so padding $1-2k is easy to hide.
